24: Series 1

average rating
Such a simple idea--yet so fiendishly complex in the execution. 24, as surely everyone knows by now, is a thriller that takes place over 24 hours, midnight to midnight, in 24 one-hour episodes (well, 45-minute episodes if you extract the ad breaks). Everything to take place in real time--on-screen and off-screen time the same--which means no flash-backs, no flash-forwards, no nice handy time-dissolves. Every strand of the plot has to be dovetailed and interlocked to make sure that things happen... read more.

I was never able to watch this when shown initially on television. Recently though I received Series 1 as a gift. After watching the first episode though on DVD, I was unable to stop until I finished completely. I thought that this particular series was dramatic, compelling, thought provoking and irresistable. I would now recommend '24' to anybody. I intend to eventually purchase every other series now.

I am the worlds worst at "disciplinary TV watching", having to remember to sit and watch a TV series week after week. For this reason I was never convinced by 24 when it was on TV but having borrowed it from a colleague I am completle gripped by it's fast paced, extremely well thought out plot. The idea is epic in itself let alone writting the screen plays. The performances by the actors involved draw you into the plot very quickly so you can take a front row "need to know basis" seat on the rollercoaster of conspiracies and deceipt. A magnificent example of first class, all action, looking down the telescopic sites of the hunter and the hunted. It takes the meaning of "TV series" into the Abyss.

24 Is a phenominal show that cannot fail to captivate anyone who is lucky enough to feast their eyes on its expansive, emotional, thrilling, tear-jerking story lines accompanied with truely amazing acting especially from it's lead Kiefer Sutherland whos plays an extremely convincing governmental agent, Jack Bauer. And lets face it - He can do the best "stage cry" ever! The story is filmed in real-time which makes the show so wonderfully gripping, as, in the words of Kiefer Sutherland: "Every little action become relavent, such as a long red light, when someones life is in danger....Which it almost always is." So basically I'm not going to give away the story, but even if you are uncertain, buy this DVD! I can assure you that you wont regret it, and if you do I give you official permission to hunt me down... And and some of the prices on here...You cant go wrong.
