  • How I Met Your Mother - Season 1-9 [DVD] How I Met Your Mother - Season 1-9 | DVD | (13/10/2014) from £35.99  |  Saving you £4.00 (10.00%)  |  RRP £39.99

Season 1 The Emmy® Award Winning How I Met Your Mother is about Ted and how he met his wife. The show is told in a flashback form documenting his quest to find the right lady. This journey began when Ted got word of his best friends getting married - he was worried that he would never find that special someone. So with the help of his friends (often unsolicited) he goes about finding the girl of his dreams. Barney, Ted's friend has the propensity to harm him more than help him. The show also follows Ted's best friends Marshall and Lily as they get ready for married life. Season 2 The woman of his dreams is out there - the question is, who is she? Told in a series of flashbacks, How I Met Your Mother is the hilariously unpredictable story of how twenty-something Ted meets his soul mate and says goodbye to the single world of pick-up lines, one-night-stands, and relationship deal-breakers. With friends Marshall and Lily's wedding fast approaching, the outrageously inappropriate Barney remains a consummate bachelor, while Ted's romance with Robin heats up - but is she really the one for him? Things have a funny way of working out in this delightfully fresh and fast-paced comedy. Season 3 The search for a soul mate has never been so wildly inappropriate. Ted is still looking for Miss Right, but his road to domestic bliss is paved with punk rock girls, tattoos, adult video expos and an epic St. Patrick's Day bender. Meanwhile, as Marshall and Lily adjust to married life, the incorrigible Barney commits a major violation of The Bro Code. Featuring a host of hilarious guest stars, including Britney Spears, Sarah Chalke (TV's Scrubs), Enrique Iglesias, Mandy Moore and Heidi Klum. Season 4 From dating dilemmas to career conundrums, the recently engaged Ted and his feisty friends find themselves at the crossroads of young adult life. While newlyweds Marshall and lily contemplate parenthood, single gal Robin explores the advantages of having friends with benefits. Meanwhile, the irrepressible, opinionated Barney continues his hilariously dogged pursuit of the fairer sex. As for Ted, his Miss Right is out there, but amid bar brawls and blizzards, how will he ever find her? Season 5 Suit up for the hilarious Season Five of How I Met Your Mother, the outrageous, Emmy-nominated hit starring Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan! The show's season is loaded with hook-ups, break-ups and the return of Slapsgiving - not to mention the hottest guest stars imaginable, including Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Amanda Peet and Rachel Bilson. On the dating front, Barney and Robin take their relationship to the next level - before calling it off- and Ted meets the roommate of his future wife in this uproarious, modern-day love story told in reverse. Season 6 How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all started when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), dropped the bombshell that he was going to propose to his long-time girlfriend, and now wife, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realised that he had better get a move on if he too hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a friend with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted met Robin (Cobie Smulders), it was love at first sight, but when things didn't work out, Ted realised destiny must have something else in store. Season 7 With both a baby and a wedding on the way, change is in the air and awesomeness abounds in the hilariously unpredictable season seven of How I Met Your Mother. As Marshall and Lily move away to start their family, Ted continues the search for the woman of his dreams. Meanwhile, Robin reveals a shocking secret and special guess star Katie Holmes joins the fun in the long-awaited return of the slutty pumpkin! And, wedding bells are ringing at last for confirmed bachelor Barney, but why is he wearing that ridiculous ducky tie, and just who is the lucky lady? Season 8 In the uproarious Eighth Season of How I Met Your Mother, the arrival of baby Marvin reminds Marshall and Lily of things they need, like sleep, better jobs and sex! Meanwhile Barney uses his playbook to win over Robin, but not her scary dad. Marshall tries to right a wrong in court in hopes of becoming a judge, and Robin's past is judged. Ted designs an amazing building, and also has designs on Barney's half-sister! But does he meet his future wife? Season 9 The ninth and final season of the comedy smash hit US series How I Met Your Mother. This season takes place over the course of Barney and Robin's wedding weekend, when the lives of the gang change dramatically. Ted is about to move to Chicago, Marshall and Lily are about to move to Rome, and Robin and Barney are about to become husband and wife.

  • Gulliver's Travels [DVD] Gulliver's Travels | DVD | (16/05/2011) from £3.94  |  Saving you £15.80 (79.00%)  |  RRP £19.99

Gulliver's Travels is about as marginal as the trailers suggest; it's a tepidly entertaining, irreverent, and sometimes crass comedy starring Jack Black that takes some gigantic liberties with Jonathan Swift's classic story about the land of Lilliput and its tiny inhabitants. Mailroom loser Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black) is stuck in a dead-end job and living a dead-end life until the promotion of a fellow employee spurs him to speak up and take action. While a trip to the Bermuda Triangle may not be the date with crush Darcy Silverman (Amanda Peet) that Gulliver had envisioned, the voyage promises to take his career in a new direction, and it eventually delivers him to a kingdom known as Lilliput, which is populated by miniature people. After initially being captured and locked away in a dungeon, Gulliver wins the hearts of the Lilliputian people by saving their princess (Emily Blunt) from being kidnapped and rescuing their king (Billy Connolly) from a fire in a most unorthodox and unsavoury way, and he quickly finds himself in a position of gigantic influence. Problem is, Gulliver is completely unprepared and unqualified for his new leadership roles, both on the personal and professional levels, and his ineptitude puts himself and all of Lilliput in extreme danger. Grade-school humour abounds in this fairly mindless film, something Jack Black always excels at, but viewers will find that the chuckles and the message about the power of believing in oneself fade equally as fast as the credits roll. From the producers of The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up comes a comic look at one guy's arduous quest to grow up and get over the heartbreak of being dumped - if he can only make himself start Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He's the guy left holding her purse in paparazzi photos and accidentally omitted from acceptance award speeches. But his world is rocked when she dumps him and Peter finds himself alone. • The Muppets [DVD] The Muppets | DVD | (11/06/2012) from £3.89  |  Saving you £14.00 (77.80%)  |  RRP £17.99

Movies attempting to retrieve cherished nuggets of pop culture often stumble, either by appealing solely to the die-hard minutia enthusiasts or clunking up the batter with unnecessary additions to the base material. (Enough with the human love triangles, get to the giant robots fighting.) Thankfully, this revival of Jim Henson's beloved characters gets the formula delightfully right, providing a googly-eyed nostalgia trip for adults while also retaining the original's sense of bright (and mildly subversive) wonder. All that's missing is a cameo from Shields and Yarnell, really. Kicking off with a boffo musical number, the story follows Walter (voice of Peter Linz), a small-town boy with a uniquely personal affection for the long-retired Muppets. (OK, he's made of felt.) Teaming up with his brother (Jason Segel, who also co-scripted) and the local schoolteacher (Amy Adams), they attempt to get Kermit, Fozzie, and the gang back together in order to save their studio from an evil oil baron (Chris Cooper, going all in). Director James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) does a marvelous job of updating and honoring his material, weaving sly references to days gone by (the contents of Kermit's rolodex are a particular delight) into the mix of songs, celebrity cameos, and barn-broad puns that gave the original show its bubbly kick. (Fans of Animal and the Chickens will not go home disappointed.) Even the moments that don't quite work land with a cornball brio that feels wholly of a piece with Henson's universe. The result is a true family movie that still brings on the blissful, uncomplicated grins days after viewing. No matter what Statler and/or Waldorf might say, the show goes on. --Andrew Wright

  • Despicable Me Blu-ray 3D Despicable Me Blu-ray 3D | Blu Ray | (21/02/2011) from £7.69  |  Saving you £22.30 (74.40%)  |  RRP £29.99

Despicable Me is a compelling animated comedy about an aging supervillain's falling popularity at the hands of a younger supervillain and three young orphan girls. Gru is a true, bad-to-the-core evildoer who's earned the title of the world's No. 1 supervillain. But when young upstart Vector steals the Pyramid of Giza, Gru's status suddenly sinks to No. 2. Gru counters his fall by speeding up his plan to shrink and steal the moon, enlisting the help of his army of minions and the elderly Dr. Nefario, but a lack of funding and the difficulties involved in stealing the needed shrink-ray gun threaten to derail everything. Adopting three young orphan girls is an unlikely, but seemingly effective means to further Gru's evil mission, but Gru quickly discovers that caring for three young girls is more work, and distraction, than he could ever have anticipated. What unfolds is an unexpected shift in attitude that will forever change the lives of Gru, Vector, and all three young girls. A visually appealing film produced by Chris Meledandri (Ice Age, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, and Horton Hears a Who), Despicable Me is full of weirdly shaped characters and settings that are somehow a perfect fit for Sergio Pablos's story. What's especially refreshing is that in this film, 3-D effects are used skillfully and effectively: even when the effects are exploited for comic reasons, they don't become a distraction, as is all too common in many recent movies. The film is full of corny banter and silly antics that inspire plenty of spontaneous laughter, and the minions, while not the best-developed characters, sure are comical. Ultimately, there's also a wholesome message about following one's heart. Steve Carell is the perfect villain-gone-soft in his role as Gru, Jason Segal is quite funny as Vector, and Julie Andrews makes a surprising appearance as Gru's very un-motherly mom. The story isn't new, the humour is relatively juvenile and somewhat forgettable, and it's no Toy Story 3, but Despicable Me celebrates silliness in a way that's satisfying and highly entertaining.
