Daniel Craig stars as the latest incarnation of James Bond in the 21st instalment of the franchise. Based on one of the original Ian Fleming novels, the story follows a young Bond at the beginning of his career having just received his double-0 status. For his latest mission, 007 travels to Montenegro to investigate the highly exclusive Casino Royale where Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), a money man for an international terrorist group, is raising funds for their misdeeds through high-stakes gambling. The rookie MI6 agent, aided by British Treasury agent Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), is tasked with infiltrating the group and ultimately defeating the rogue player, both on and off the tables.

    Nobody does it better!
Casino Royale took over 40 years to arrive on the official Bond film wagon, after 007's creator Ian Fleming sold the film rights to Sony pictures, who are now the studio releasing all Bonds from now on with MGM. The producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Brocoli always wanted to do a 'proper' version after the successful but ultimately failed attempts in the past, and after a 4 year law suit, they finally atained the rights to make the film of the book that, arguably is the best Bond book showcasing James Bond as a fully rounded human being. Thus the current incarnation Pierce Brosnan was ruled out as we travel back to Bond at the start of his career in the 00 section.
It took another 2 years of searching to find an actor who could not only tackle the tougher, 'professional killer' side of Bond, but who could also show the emotion and genuine anguish of being a murderer shown in Fleming's novels. Hence we arrive with Daniel Craig, who was almost instantly ridiculed for being blonde, too short, ugly..the list goes on! (most of these critics are now eating a big slab of humble pie!)
So on November 16th 2006, the 21st James Bond film was unleashed to the public and the reaction - the best Bond film ever made starring the best Bond since Sean Connery! the film is not just classic Bond, its better Bond. The pre-title sequence catapults the viewer into a more realistic film with far more brutal fights than any Bond film done before. The trademark witty one-liners are handled with style with no hint of cheese at all! By the time the film ends, the adreneline is sky high and you just sit back and think WOW! All I wanted to do was book another showing and see it again! Of course being a Bond fan I am biased, but there was something wrong with the most recent Bonds after the excellent Goldeneye that I couldn't put my finger on but I have never gone out of a cinema with such a big grin on my face as when I walked out at 4:30 that Thursday afternoon!
Daniel Craig has done more with Bond in one film than the others managed in their entire careers being the world's most famous secret agent. He looks like the Bond from the books, has the rough edges from the books, and above all - he can act!
All in all the franchise is safe for another 10 years as long as the Bond team keep up the exceptional work, and Casino Royale now stands as my favourite James Bond film, not just because its a Bond film, but a geniunely great action adventure film of the 21st century.
