Che - Part 1 - The Argentine [Blu-ray]

Steven Soderbergh's widely anticipated biopic of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara is split into two-parts and stars Benecio Del Toro as Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Part 1 opens in 1956 when Che, an idealistic doctor, is convinced by Fidel Castro to join him and his revolutionaries in their fight against General Batista, the corrupt dictator. The film follows this movement until the success of the Cuban revolution in 1959, when Che, now 30 years old, heads towards Havana to being the hardest task of the revolution, to build a new kind of society.

This is a highly intelligent and fast-paced film that is intercut with black and white sequences from 1964, when Che was interviewed in New York and gave a speech at the United Nations. It offers an account of Che’s bitter, hard-fought struggle and the motivations of this complex revolutionary.

See 'Che: part two' for the conclusion of this epic story.
