Bronson

Bronson is a biographical crime film directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Tom Hardy. The film is based on the infamous UK criminal Charles Bronson, the country's most dangerous prisoner.

Although he was born into a respectable middle class family, 19 year old Michael Peterson decided to make a name for himself as a criminal. So, with a homemade sawn-off shotgun he attempted to rob a post office and landed 7 years in jail. Since then Michael, who was later renamed after his alter ego 'Charles Bronson', has only left prison twice due to accruing further terms for assaulting his fellow prisoners and guards and ultimately spending most of his life in solitary confinement.

Bronson is narrated with humour and as a result is criticised by many for glorifying violence and prison. It is an interesting exploration of a man's violence as his alter-ego and tracks his life from childhood to his present state.
