This lovely animation charts events that happened before the scheming fairy story character, the intensely swashbuckling Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), meets up with Shrek and Donkey in Shrek 2.
The story is based around Puss in Boots' endeavours to avoid capture by a bounty hunter at the same time as trying to clear his name from criminal charges. In the process he becomes reacquainted with an old friend Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and together with Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) they team up to steal some magic beans from notorious criminals; Jack and Jill (Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris) which will allow them to climb the beanstalk to claim the golden eggs.
With many light-hearted, playfully inaccurate takes on other well-known fairy stories and with an abundance of humour throughout, this animation is expertly presented and features some captivating music. Compelling viewing for ages 7 upwards.
