This is Tomas Alfredson's incredibly inspiring adaptation of John Le Carre's unanimously popular classic spy novel of the same name. The novel, the fifth to feature the rather reticent George Smiley, a middle-aged intelligence expert who has been forced to retire from the Secret Service, has been a favourite since it was written back in 1974.
The story is set in the early '70s during the Cold War. Smiley is given information that there is a Russian agent, a mole, secretly operating from within the very core of the Secret Service, betraying Britain, causing missions to fail and putting every future operation at risk. Smiley is asked to return to his former role in the world of espionage where every colleague, every friend is a potential double agent. He narrows the suspects down to four; all of whom are thought of as trusted, loyal, experienced British agents. Who is the traitor? Will he find him in time?
