With its star studded line-up, stunning backdrop and sharp dialogue, Vicky Cristina Barcelona is arguably director, Woody Allen's finest work since Bullets Over Broadway (1994). The film's talented cast includes Penelope Cruz who won a "Best Performance By An Actress In A Supporting Role" Oscar for her outstanding performance as the explosive Maria, also, Scarlett Johansen (Christina), Javier Bardem (Juan) and Rebecca Hall (Vicky).
The story begins in beautiful Barcelona where two American best friends, Vicky and Cristina are spending their summer months. Despite being complete opposites; Vicky is sensible, diligent, cautious and engaged, whereas, Cristina is sexually adventurous, reckless and in search of new passions, the pair soon discover they have more in common that they first thought when they clash over a love interest.
Juan is a passionate and extremely seductive bohemian artist who whisks the women off their feet and proposes that the three of them fly to Oviedo for the weekend, with the aim of making love. Vicky is in a relationship but is persuaded by Cristina to go along on the trip, however, unexpected events force them to return to Barcelona when Juan's insanely obsessive and volatile ex-wife enters the mix.
