We have already seen the release of some much anticipated DVD titles this May. With the weather making us all feel as if it's still winter-time the option of staying indoors, keeping warm and settling down to watch a good film continues to be very appealing.
Most of us have been looking forward to seeing Steven Spielberg's War Horse, the extraordinary story of Joey a beautiful thoroughbred horse commandeered by the British Cavalry to be used on the Front Line in France during World War I. This title is now out and is available to buy (7/5/2012).
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is another one that we know a lot of our visitors have been waiting for and it has been on Find-DVD's best sellers list for some time now. This title based around Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famously bizarre and unusual character was directed by Guy Ritchie and came out onto DVD earlier this week (14/5/2012). It stars Robert Downey JR, Jude Law, Noomi Rapace and Stephen Fry and is not to be missed.
One of the titles that is going to be released later this month is multi-Award nominated The Descendants, a comedy drama from 2011 starring George Clooney as business tycoon Matt King trying to piece together his own family after a tragic accident which leaves his wife on life-support and dying. This is a highly entertaining film which is extremely moving at times and arguably sees George Clooney at his acting-best. The Descendants is due out on 21/5/2012.
The Grey is also due out on 21/5/2012. This tense adventure thriller tells the story of a group of oil workers in Alaska whose plane crashes as they are setting off home for a two week break. There are eight survivors who, once they have managed to clamber out of the twisted, shattered plane wreckage, find themselves not only in the midst of the remotest, most inhospitable icy Alaskan wilderness but also having to try to outwit and fend off a pack of wolves which always seem to be one step ahead. Liam Neeson stars as John Ottway, who assumes the role of group leader in this seemingly futile fight for survival.
The Bridge (also Bron or Broen) is a very highly rated police thriller series shown on TV recently. It follows the investigation of a serial murderer whose first victim was found in two parts (later discovered to be two separate bodies) exactly halfway between Sweden and Denmark on the border in the middle of the Oresund Bridge. This prompts the necessity for Danish/Swedish police collaboration. A team headed by Saga Noren (Malmo, Sweden) and Martin Rodhe (Copenhagen, Denmark), both extremely complicated, colourful characters, is set up and despite their personalities being poles apart they work well together and carefully edge their way towards a satisfactory conclusion. The Bridge is due to be released onto DVD on 21/5/2012.
The Artist is possibly the most successful film from 2011. It was nominated for, and won, a wealth of the most coveted awards last season including Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. The film is set in 1927 and tells the story of the romantic involvement of George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) one of the greatest silent movie stars of his time and Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo) a film extra and dancer. Through this love story we are shown the effect the new phenomenon, talking pictures, has on their two careers; as one excitingly takes off, the other begins to dwindle. This incredible film is shot authentically in black and white silent movie style and includes all the melodrama, over-exaggeration and humour that symbolises this era. The Artist is due out on 28/5/2012.
