Wow ... was Russell's reaction as he walked out to a standing ovation at the venue of his dreams. This is so much more than a concert; it is an experience of the greatest musical and emotional magnitude. The spotlight was very much on the man with one of the most sensational singing voices that the classical world has ever known. But he was not alone; filling the enormous stage with him was the forty-eight piece Arts Symphonic impeccably led by Lizzie Ball under enigmatic conductor Robert Emery, the assured Capital Voices and an eighty- strong backing choir. What a magical sight and what magnificent sound! Russell made an emotional opening to his fans, It's difficult to find words to explain how I feel tonight ... because I built myself to this moment from the very day that I finished my last session of radiotherapy. I remember going to bed dreaming about this night in the most famous of venues on the planet and here I am, thank God - I can't believe it. Thank you for your welcome, it was absolutely incredible thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Russell's faultless performance starts with a powerful rendition of Somewhere and Ave Maria and is followed by a string of incredible numbers such as Funiculi Funicula and Volare and closes with a Royal Albert Hall roof-raising Nessun Dorma . One of the highlights of the wonderful set comes when Russell is joined by classical crossover newcomer Mary-Jess for a Phantom Of The Opera medley, and an amazing duet of The Prayer . This is a dream come true and a performance of a life-time, enjoy.

  • The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over | DVD | (02/05/2005) from £10.40  |  Saving you £0.84 (5.60%)  |  RRP £14.99

The long-defunct, Southern Californian band regrouped for an album, an expensive tour (expensive for ticket buyers, that is) and this televised special, which features the Eagles in performance. Laid-back but sharp and even stirring during a longish acoustic set, the guys quickly get past the nostalgia element and sound truly viable. They even make it look easy: the sight of Joe Walsh wearing glasses and sitting in almost perfect repose as he effortlessly colours old hits "Tequila Sunrise" and new material such as "Learn to Be Still" may make you wonder why you ever stashed that guitar in the attic. The band eventually gets off their stools and rocks out on "Hotel California" and other Eagles standards. All in all, it's an enjoyable and mellowing show. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

  • Led Zeppelin [2003] Led Zeppelin | DVD | (26/05/2003) from £18.39  |  Saving you £5.12 (20.50%)  |  RRP £24.99

Legendary and long sought-after, this live Led Zeppelin collection is nothing less than the rock music equivalent of the Holy Grail. Quite simply, this is what all the fuss was about. Given that they were the biggest band in the world, Zeppelin were notoriously camera-shy in their heyday. Their official filmic legacy until now has been just the fascinating but flawed The Song Remains the Same. While this new set presents some previously unseen footage from the same 1973 Madison Square Garden gigs, its real wonders lie in the earlier (1970) Royal Albert Hall footage and the later Earls Court (1975) and Knebworth (1979) concerts. Everything here looks and sounds new-minted, thanks to painstaking restoration and remastering of both audio and visual sources, a Herculean labour of love on the part of co-producer Dick Carruthers working hand-in-glove with Jimmy Page. Trawling through thousands of yards of previously unseen film and unheard tape recordings--some with missing visuals, some with missing audio--Page and Carruthers have chosen only the best possible footage available. They were also at pains to make the segments segue seamlessly so that the viewer is treated to what feels like a continuous concert--just sample the transition from a grainy Super 8 "Immigrant Song" (Sydney, 1972) to "Black Dog" at MSG. Highlights? It's not hyperbole to say that every powerhouse minute of this collection (some 230 minutes of concert footage plus another hour and a half of extra DVD material) is a rare musical and visual treat. But hearing Page's violin bow work on "Dazed and Confused" in DTS or Dolby 5.1 is an experience not soon forgotten. On the DVD: Led Zeppelin two-disc set presents all the footage in pristine 4:3 picture ratio (the Madison Square Garden footage is letterboxed) with Dolby 5.1, DTS or PCM Stereo sound options. Note that the audio is uncompressed for maximum ear-shattering enjoyment. The menu screens do not pop up beforehand, but have to be selected. It's well worth doing so. Enjoy the music first, then discover that even the menus have been painstakingly designed to provide still more unseen footage and unheard recordings (some screens don't cycle round, but present another song in its entirety). Extras include rare TV appearances, interviews and bootleg footage. --Mark Walker

  • ABBA - In Concert [1979] ABBA - In Concert | DVD | (29/03/2004) from £6.25  |  Saving you £3.74 (37.40%)  |  RRP £9.99

The title ABBA--In Concert is perhaps a little misleading in promising something a bit more "live" than is actually delivered. While this "official" TV film provides a fascinating insight into ABBA's 1979 tour of North America and Europe, the first segment of the 50-minute documentary is given over almost exclusively to behind-the-scenes material. As the film progresses and the action shifts from the US to London's Wembley, more live performance footage is included such as full length renditions of "Chiquitita", "Dancing Queen" and "Summer Night City". Made by Swedish television company SVT, and released for the first time on DVD in 2004 to coincide with ABBA's 30th anniversary, Urban Lasson's film begins by charting the group's attempts to crack the US. Rather than using a narrator to guide the viewer through the scenes, the film competently uses stylish images to tell the story of the group's trip across the continent. Recorded at the height of the disco era, the American footage is dominated by images of roller skaters, and some of the live material from the Wembley shows was shot by a roller-skating cameraman, so that he could move more quickly on stage to get the best shots. The four split just a couple of years after this tour, making the film one of a few quality recordings of the band playing live. It's a shame that additional full performances of other ABBA favourites were not recorded, or included in the final cut. However the disc does include previously unreleased DVD footage of "The Way Old Friends Do", "I Have A Dream" (Unedited Live Version) and "Thank You For The Music" to partially compensate for this. On the DVD:As well as the bonus concert performances, the DVD includes recently recorded interviews with the film director Urban Lasson, and the promoter and tour producer Thomas Johansson. A tour souvenir programme picture gallery is also included, and the disc comes with a 28-page colour booklet, which features an excellent extended essay by Carl Magnus Palm on the making of the film. The soundtrack has been painstakingly remastered in 5.1 Surround Sound, making the live performances sound stunning. --John Galilee

  • West Side Story [Blu-ray] [1961] West Side Story | Blu Ray | (17/10/2011) from £8.94  |  Saving you £6.90 (43.20%)  |  RRP £15.99

The winner of 10 Academy Awards, this 1961 musical by choreographer Jerome Robbins and director Robert Wise (The Sound of Music) remains irresistible. Based on a smash Broadway play updating Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the 1950s era of juvenile delinquency, West Side Story stars Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer as the star-crossed lovers from different neighbourhoods--and ethnicities. The film's real selling points, however, are the highly charged and inventive song-and-dance numbers, the passionate ballads, the moody sets, colourful support from Rita Moreno, and the sheer accomplishment of Hollywood talent and technology producing a film so stirring. Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim wrote the score. --Tom Keogh
