In a story that stretches from Benny Lynch to Matt Busby Scotland has produced far more than its fair share of the most memorable moments in British sport. In this DVD we'll see the Scottish national team humiliate the 'Auld Enemy' at Hampden and Wembley and their colleagues in Rugby Union do the same at Twickenham and Murrayfied. At the Olympics Scotland has blazed a trail all the way from Eric Liddell to Allan Wells. On the race track Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart became legends too. There are some who say that per head of population Scotland has produced more sporting greats than the rest of Britain put together with Scotland's Sporting Glory you'll be able to decide for yourself!
Vans Warped Tour 2003 | UMD | (29/08/2005)
from £3.99 | Saving you £11.00 (73.40%) | RRP
The ninth Warped Tour, a celebration of punk rock, skateboards, and BMX racing, takes a pleasantly nostalgic angle on the long-running, successful summer tour, gathering memories, quotes, and reflections by artists and management alike. Still, it's the music that counts, including the epic leanings of Sum 41's "Over My Head," the catchy rage of Rancid's "Journey to the End of the East Bay," and the Celtic mania of Dropkick Murphys' "Black Velvet Band." Elsewhere, Less Than Jake's nutty horn section on "Ghosts of You and Me," Andrew W.K.'s overbearing and irresistible silliness on "We Want Fun," and Poison the Well's thrash-punk drama on "Botchla" prove galvanising. Several acts look and sound like rebels in search of a clue, but for the most part the bands on Vans Warped Tour 2003 are musically, as well as socially, compelling. --Tom Keogh
Freshest Kids: A History Of The B-Boy | UMD | (01/09/2005)
from £2.32 | Saving you £12.67 (84.50%) | RRP
The subtitle couldn't be more accurate: A History of the B-Boy is a comprehensive look at the world's "freshest kids." This lively documentary isn't about hip-hop or hip-hop culture as much as about an integral part of that culture. B-boys are defined, variously, as "breakboys" (the original term) and "breakdancers" (the more widely known one). These "kids," many now in their 30s, helped to shape hip-hop's look and spread its gospel. The narrative traces their evolution from the South Bronx 1970s to media-crazed 1980s--when they were featured in movies from Wild Style to Flashdance--to today, as the phenomenon has returned to the underground while remaining as popular as ever (as exemplified by footage from Germany, Japan, etc.). The old and new school are on hand to explain and to praise the b-boy; everyone from rappers like KRS-One and Mos Def to breakers like Crazy Legs and Ken Swift. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
