This case ushered in the beginning of a nationwide reckoning with the problem of child grooming- identifying thousands of victims of sexual abuse in towns and cities throughout the UK a reckoning that continues to this day. The drama tells the true story of three girls, Holly, and sisters Amber and Ruby, and their families. All three girls were the victims not only of gangs of men, but also of the organs of the state that were meant to protect them. A soft black rain is falling, but when the rain falls on Zombies and humans alike, it melts the flesh from their bones. Warren is there, screaming as the skin melts away from her skull then she wakes. Season four begins 2 years in the future, just as Warren is waking from a coma to find that she, and a cured, flesh-toned, seemingly 100% human Murphy, have survived. The rest of the Team was scattered after the events of the season three finally. As Warren and Murphy find the others, they discover they may have lost one of their own; worse, one of Our Heroes may have delivered the deathblow. Physically and psychologically changed, Warren is haunted by the prophetic dream of a Black Rainbow and a powerful compulsion to travel east. Unwilling to lose her, the Team follows, and with the help of new parents, Kaya and Citizen Z, Our Heroes discover the hidden meaning of Warren's dream, Zona's plan to cleanse the earth for their own use, and the nearly impossible tasks Our Heroes will have to complete to save all that's left of non-billionaire life on earth. As if all that wasn't hard enough, the Zombie Virus has evolved again, the parasite spreading from the brain into all the remaining flesh, so that killing the brain no longer kills the Zombie; Mad-Zs must be totally obliterated, or they just keep coming. There's no gas, hardly any bullets, and damn few people that aren't bug nuts crazy. Just a dream and a mission and a sliver of hope, as Warren leads the Team back across the American Apocalypse, uniting our core characters again, new evolutions of their old selves, on a single mission of hope.

  • Blue Collar (Blu-Ray) Blue Collar (Blu-Ray) | Blu Ray | (22/01/2018) from £14.99  |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)  |  RRP £N/A

Paul Schrader had established his reputation as a screenwriter (The Yakuza and Taxi Driver, among others) before embarking on his directorial debut. Blue Collar is the story of three working-class guys at the Checker auto plant who run their local union office. Richard Pryor delivers a funny, passionate, seething performance in one of his rare dramatic roles as a rabble-rousing union man. Trapped by family worries and crippling back taxes, he dreams up the robbery after scoping out the joint and enlists his coworker and buddies, family man Harvey Keitel and high-living bachelor Yaphet Kotto, who are in similar financial straits. This is a strictly amateur-hour heist, and their successful getaway is the last bit of good luck in store for the trio. The robbery turns up no cash, only incriminating files, and the inept thieves are soon blackmailing the powerful union, which fights back with force, seduction, and murder. Schrader's first film has little of the polish or style he developed by American Gigolo, but his portrait of lower middle class families in 1970s Detroit, interracial relations, and male camaraderie is sharp and insightful. His attention to detail shows in every frame and adds to the edgy material, which balances the thriller plot with social commentary about corruption, labour relations, and the lure of power. Schrader's later films show more subtlety and cinematic confidence, but time hasn't dimmed the power he unleashes in this angry working class drama.--Sean Axmaker

Considered by many Holmesians to be the best Sherlock Holmes movie ever made, Billy Wilder's The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes is both an affectionate parody, and a brilliant, melancholy celebration of Arthur Conan Doyle's infamous detective. The course of their investigation leads them to Scotland and encounters with a group of monks, some dwarfs and even the Loch Ness Monster. Can Holmes and Watson crack the case? • Planet of the Apes Triple [Blu-ray] [2017] Planet of the Apes Triple | Blu Ray | (27/11/2017) from £19.99  |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)  |  RRP £N/A

Billed as a "re-imagining" of the original film, Tim Burton's extraordinary Planet of the Apes constantly borders on greatness, adhering to the spirit of Pierre Boulle's original novel while exploring fresh and inventive ideas and paying honourable tribute to the '68 sci-fi classic. Burton's gifts for eccentric inspiration and visual ingenuity make this a movie that's as entertaining as it is provocative, beginning with Rick Baker's best-ever ape make-up (hand that man an Oscar®!), and continuing through the surprisingly nuanced performances and breathtaking production design. Add to all this an intelligent screenplay that turns Boulle's speculative reversal--the dominance of apes over humans--into a provocative study of civil rights and civil war. The film finally goes too far with a woefully misguided ending that pays weak homage to the original, but everything preceding that misfire is astonishingly right. While attempting the space-pod retrieval of a chimpanzee test pilot, Major Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) enters a magnetic storm that propels him into the distant future, where he crash-lands on the ape-ruled planet. Among the primitively civilized apes, treatment of enslaved humans is a divisive issue: senator's daughter Ari (Helena Bonham Carter) advocates equality while the ruthless General Thade (Tim Roth) promotes extermination. While Davidson ignites a human rebellion, this conflict is explored with admirable depth and emotion, and sharp dialogue allows Burton's exceptional cast to bring remarkable expressiveness to their embattled ape characters, most notably in the comic relief of orangutan slave trader Limbo (played to perfection by Paul Giamatti). Classic lines from the original film are cleverly reversed (including an unbilled cameo for Charlton Heston, in ape regalia as Thade's dying father), and while this tale of interspecies warfare leads to an ironic conclusion that's not altogether satisfying, it still bears the ripe fruit of a timeless what-if idea. --Jeff Shannon

Simply Media are delighted to announce the release of BBC's The Eagle of the Ninth: The Complete Series on DVD and Vimeo on Demand for the first time 15th January 2018. This gripping series was first broadcast on BBC Scotland during the Sunday primetime drama slot in 1977, where it captivated audiences. Despite recent remakes of the tale, this original adaptation is fondly remembered for being the most faithful adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff's popular novel. Directed by BAFTA-winner Michael Simpson (The Bill) and produced by BAFTA-nominee Pharic Maclaren (The Vital Spark), The Eagle of the Ninth was inspired by the legendary story of the mysterious disappearance of Rome's Ninth Legion in Britain, and the discovery of a bronze Roman eagle unearthed in Silchester in 1866. Set around 117AD, when Britain was under Roman occupation, The Eagle of the Ninth stars a young Anthony Higgins (Raiders of the Lost Ark) in the lead role as the ambitious Roman officer Marcus Flavius Aquila. He is on a mission to discover the truth of what happened to his father's legion, the Ninth Legion. Four thousand men disappeared without a trace while travelling to battle the rising Caledonian tribes in northern England. Disguising himself as a Greek doctor, and joined by his freed ex-slave, Esca (Christian Rodska - The Monuments Men) Marcus travels beyond Hadrian's Wall to unravel the mystery surrounding his father's last stand and discover what really happened to the Ninth Legion. It's a perilous journey, but Marcus is determined to bring back the bronze eagle standard that was a symbol of the Legion's honour, the Eagle of the Ninth.
