| RRP The Queen's Coronation: Behind Closed DoorsThe Coronation in 1953 appeared to be a glittering triumph for the House of Windsor. But behind the scenes there was a story of rivalry at the highest level. In this High Society special we'll discover that Prince Philip was at odds with the Queen Mother and the royal establishment over his desire to modernise the monarchy and that the old Queen was uncomfortable with her daughter's sudden rise to power. Elizabeth was caught between her husband and the traditionalists in the royal household who lived in an archaic unchanging world. This documentary with dramatised excerpts and interviews with leading historians examines how Elizabeth eventually agreed to televise the full coronation ceremony inside Westminster Abbey against the initial advice of Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the Cabinet. A decision hotly contested by her advisors it marked a dramatic change in how the monarchy communicated to the public. Unwittingly innocently the Queen had given a huge helping hand to the medium that would do so much to undermine her family in later years. The Changing Face of the QueenHer face has been on the UK's stamps and money for nearly 60 years and over 20 million people worldwide tune in to her Christmas Day speech every year. Having lived through and indeed been at the heart of some of the most dramatic events of the 20th and 21st century: The Second World War the end of the British Empire the death of Princess Diana Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most iconic women in the world. This film tells the story of an international icon. The Royal Wedding In ColourThis amazing film of the Royal Wedding was shot by the late Jack Cardiff a pioneer cameraman working with the then new Technicolor process in the 1940s. It contains never-before-seen footage in full colour of the processions at Westminster Abbey and afterwards at Buckingham Palace of the wedding of HRH Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in the autumn of 1947. This film has not been digitally enhanced the footage and soundtrack are as on the original and it provides a wonderful reminder of the times and people involved in this momentous event.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly | Blu Ray | (03/06/2013)
from £N/A
| Saving you £N/A (N/A%)
| RRP This two-disc Special Edition presents the restored, extended English-language version of Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, now clocking in at almost three hours (actually 171 minutes on this Region 2 DVD as a result of the faster frames-per-second ratio of the PAL format). It includes some 14 minutes of previously cut scenes, with both Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach returning to the editing suite in 2003 to add their voices to scenes that had never before been dubbed into English (Wallach's voice is noticeably that of a much older man in these additional sequences). The extra material contains nothing of vital importance, but it's good to have the movie returned to pretty much the way Leone originally wanted it. The anamorphic widescreen picture is now also accompanied by a handsome Dolby 5.1 soundtrack, making this the most complete and satisfactory version so far released. Film historian Richard Schickel provides an authoritative and engaging commentary on Disc 1. On the second disc there are featurettes on Leone's West (20 mins), The Leone Style (24 mins), Reconstructing The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (11 mins) and a documentary about the historical background of the Sibley campaign, The Man Who Lost the Civil War (15 mins). In addition, there's a two-part appreciation of composer Ennio Morricone, Il Maestro, by film-music expert John Burlinghame. Tuco's extended torture scene can be found here, along with a reconstruction of the fragmentary "Socorro Sequence". In short, exemplary bonus features that will satisfy every Leone aficionado. --Mark Walker

Martha Marcy May Marlene | Blu Ray | (03/06/2013)
from £N/A
| Saving you £N/A (N/A%)
| RRP Martha Marcy May Marlene creates a sense of uneasy suspense within seconds of coming on screen: a young woman, who will be known by all the title names at various times in the movie, is escaping from a rural commune of some sort. And not just a commune, but by the looks of it, a cult--an impression that will grow as Martha flashes back to her experiences once she reaches the safety of her sister's antiseptic country place. It is part of director Sean Durkin's design that we experience the film as Martha's point of view, which means there may be some question about whether she's an emotionally unstable person to begin with or simply in a legitimate terror about the traumatising events that have unfolded for her in recent months. Although the film has one storytelling contrivance (Martha withholds her experiences from her sister, when a little exposition would help matters tremendously), in general Durkin keeps a lid on this simmering situation, and he's got a good compositional eye that only occasionally tips over into preciousness. Sarah Paulson and Hugh Dancy play Martha's complacent but concerned sister and brother-in-law, and John Hawkes (Winter's Bone) is a spellbinder as the commune leader, a manipulator of subtle skill. (With some stories like this, you have a hard time believing cult followers could fall for these creepy charismatics; in this one, Hawkes demonstrates how such things might happen.) The movie's most unexpected and alluring touch is the performance by Elizabeth Olsen, as Martha; this younger sister of the child-star Olsen twins brings a zonked-out centre of gravity to the part. She's got just a bit of blankness, too, which enhances the movie's well-wrought guessing game. --Robert Horton

| RRP One of Brian De Palma’s most acclaimed films, this brilliant fusion of the obsessive sleuthing of Blow-up and The Conversation with themes drawn from real-life political scandals (the JFK assassination, Chappaquiddick, Watergate) starts with sound technician Jack Terry (John Travolta) accidentally recording what might be explosive evidence of a deadly conspiracy. Brilliantly shot by the then recent Oscar-winner Vilmos Zsigmond, this terrifically stylish thriller co-stars Nancy Allen as the eyewitness who becomes the unwitting target of John Lithgow’s serial killer as he ruthlessly attempts to bury all the evidence. It’s also a film about the filmmaking process: Terry is originally hired to work on the low-budget slasher film Coed Frenzy, and later turns his technical skills to much more serious use as he tries to reconstruct a political assassination on film in a way that will stand up in court.
