The Samurai Trilogy is based around the life of the historical character Musashi Miyamoto. Several versions of his life have been produced for cinema and television in Japan but none more prestigious than Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1955 it was also Toho's first foray into colour. The first episode of the trilogy covers Miyamoto's formative years as he emerges from rural obscurity to search for fame and glory in civil war but returns home a broken man. Brought back to sanity through the love of a warm hearted girl she persuades him to place himself under the spiritual guidance of an unorthodox Buddhist priest. The Argentine positions at Goose Green were thought to pose a threat to the British advance across the Islands and troops from the Parachute Regiment were sent to deal with it. After 12 hours of bloody fighting the Argentine position was finally overrun and the British advance on the capital Port Stanley could continue. Moving pictures were beamed back to Britain of the aftermath of the battle bringing home the stark realities of combat - a sobering reminder amid the political rhetoric and jingoism. Disc Two - The Fall Of Port Stanley: June 1982 saw the final battles of the Falklands War. For the servicemen of the British Task Force the campaign to defeat a determined enemy had been difficult and costly but now the capital Stanley the final prize lay within their grasp.
