Doom (Dir. Andrzej Bartkowiak 2005): Based on the hugely popular video game Doom is an explosive action-packed thrill ride! A frantic call for help from a remote research station on Mars sends a team of mercenary Marines into action. Led by The Rock and Karl Urban they descend into the Olduvai Research Station where they find a legion of nightmarish creatures lurking in the darkness killing at will. Once there the Marines must use an arsenal of firepower to carry out their mission: nothing gets out alive. Serenity (Dir. Joss Whedon 2005): Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer Angel) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series Firefly. A mix of space western comedy and drama Serenity follows captain Malcolm ""Mal"" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher and Summer Glau) a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time. Many of the film's action sequences revolve around Summer Glau's martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda and as a result performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts realistic graphics and an often haunting score the film's actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity's future.

  • Caamora-She [2008]Caamora-She | DVD | (10/03/2008) from £7.85   |  Saving you £10.14 (129.17%)   |  RRP £17.99

An outstanding release!!!!!! ""She"" - a unique event on the worldwide scale!!!! This fantastic release is a must have for all fans of the best quality progressive/rock music!!!! Caamora represents the partnership of Clive Nolan (Pendragon Arena) and Agnieszka Swita in a lavish and creative collaboration. The musical version of 'She' is based on the classic novel of the same name by Victorian adventure writer H. Rider Haggard. Clive first encountered this story 25 years ago when he saw a film version at the cinema as a child. It has always been his intention to set this story to music but it was not until he met Agnieszka that it did seem to be the right time. With Agnieszka's encouragement Clive decided to begin this epic composition. Over the following months Clive furiously set to writing material and Agnieszka traveled regularly from Poland to England to record demos. Gradually the material piled up until they had over two hours of songs and music. The culmination of the last two year's work with Caamora took place on 31st October 2007 at the Wyspianski Theatre Katowice Poland. Spearheaded by Clive Nolan and Agnieszka Swita this epic production featured also guest musicians: Alan Reed (Pallas/Neo) & Christina Booth (Magenta) on vocals bassist John Jowitt (IQ Neo) Mark Westwood (Neo) & Martin Bowen on the guitars Richard West (Threshold) & Steve Williams on the keyboards as also Scott Higham on the drums. The musical landscape of 'She' is wide and varied: from the close intimate sounds of voice and piano through to the exhilaration and power of orchestra and choir the music is intense and colourful. Clive Nolan: ""For me the blending of orchestra and rock band was one of the biggest challenges. I did not want these to be two separate entities stuck together (as is often the case with 'band and orchestra' albums) but one enormous blended sound."" Stylistically ""She"" has elements of heavy rock and moments of pure opera - sometimes simple sometimes complex; this is a rock opera that will stand the test of time. Tracklist: Act 1: Overture Scene 1: The Storm The Veil Covenant of Faith Rescue. Scene 2: The Cave The Bonding. Scene 3: Judgment History. Scene 4: Confrontation Vigil. Scene 5: Shadowsa Act 2 - Scene 1: Fire Dance. Scene 2: Cursed Closer Disbelief Murder Eleventh Hour 03. As Long As We Are One

In 1960 producer-director George Pal's The Time Machine reshaped HG Wells' thoughtful, ironic novel into a two-fisted action movie, but one that still appeals to children and adults immensely and deserves its classic status. Wells' themes of biological and social evolution are played down, but there is a surprisingly melancholy thread as Rod Taylor's Time Traveller keeps stopping off at future wars to find that human stupidity still persists. In the first week of 1900 a group of fussy Victorians gather in Taylor's chintzy, overstuffed parlour to hear him tell of his expedition to the future, where the world is divided between the surface-dwelling, childish, beautiful Eloi and the hideous, underground, cannibal Morlocks. Wells intended both factions to seem degenerate, the logical final evolution of the class system, but Pal has Taylor pull a Captain Kirk and side with the Eloi and teach them to fight against their oppressors. The time travel sequence remains a tour de force, with a shop window mannequin demonstrating a parade of fashions as the years fly by in seconds and charming but still-effective stop-motion effects. The future is a wonderfully coloured landscape with properly gruesome cave-dwelling monsters and a winning Eloi heroine in Yvette Mimieux. It may not be totally Wells, but it's a treat. On the DVD: The Time Machine arrives on disc in a lovely widescreen print which makes the film seem new all over again. The featurette "Time Machine: The Journey Back" combines some mild behind-the-scenes stuff about the film (and its star prop) with a moving mini-sequel reuniting stars Rod Taylor and Alan Young in a scene that actually addresses a plot point skipped over in the original. --Kim Newman
