Some of the special guest artists featured on this release are none other than the great Fred Astaire Helen Forest Charlie Shavers Gene Krupa and Ray Eberle with Helen O'Connell.Artie ShawOne of the all time great clarinetists and big band directors Artie Shaw had an insatiably restless spirit. His continuous search for a new sound led him to create five different big band lineups during the course of his career. It is a testimony to Shaw's genius that each of his bands were amongst the best of the genre and each possessed its own unique sound. He became famous for his versatile instrumentation that included performing with a string quartet and a rhythm section as well as adding strings and vocals to a Dixieland horn section.Tommy DorseyPerhaps the most popular big band leader of the swing era Tommy Dorsey thrilled audiences worldwide with his mellifluous trombone sound. The group's style was characterised by an eclectic blend of swing ballads and classic novelty tunes. His band often backed such notable artists as Frank Sinatra Jo Stafford and Dick Haymes. Tommy Dorsey is featured here as a member of the inimitable pianist Art Tatum's band as well as the leader of his own orchestra and co-leader of an orchestra with his brother Jimmy Dorsey.
