  Hit American sitcom Will and Grace is as perky as Friends and as wittily urbane as Frasier. The premise concerns Will (Eric McCormack), a mildly uptight lawyer who agrees to let his best friend, interior designer Grace (Debra Messing), to become his flatmate. Their relationship has all the hallmarks of lovers--emotional dependency, little things that get on each others' nerves, strong mutual interests and volcanic arguments. The only snag is that while Grace is straight, Will is gay. Though not shy of poking sharp fun at that situation, Will and Grace is among sitcom's most potent and sophisticated antidotes to homophobia. Though initially a little too pleased with its own camp pertness, the show grows and grows on you with successive episodes, finally becoming indispensable. It also benefits from secondary characters Jack (Sean P Hayes) and Karen (Megan Mullally), also gay and straight respectively, both outrageously and hilariously irresponsible characters: he a free spirit and freeloader, she’s "working" as Grace's assistant, even though she doesn't need the money, having married it. Despite its diamond and rapid-fire punch-lines, Will and Grace conveys enough sense of the main characters' lovelorn predicament to prevent it from becoming too cute.--David Stubbs

To bring food and other essential supplies to the occupants of the city and to allow the Green's well-to-do to acquire the scarce luxury items to which they were once accustomed a hardened group of mercenaries-headed by Riley (Simon Baker) and his second-in-command Cholo (John Leguizamo)-run retrieval missions outside the city protected by their massive armored vehicle Dead Reckoning. Riley and Cholo like Kaufman are in it for the money which they hope to use for their own escapes- Riley to the North with promises of a world without fences and freedom and Cholo to the luxury of Fiddler's Green far away from the violent life he has known. While Kaufman and his employees concern themselves with commerce life is changing both within and beyond the walls of the city. Unrest and anarchy are on the rise among the city's disenfranchised and outside the army of the dead is changing evolving learning to organize and communicate. When Cholo commandeers Dead Reckoning intent on extorting millions out of Kaufman and his cronies Riley and his ragtag group-including Slack (Asia Argento) and Charlie (Robert Joy)-are called into action to stop Cholo and in the process protect the city and its population from the growing army of evolving zombies storming its weakening perimeter.

  Chungking Express tells two stories loosely connected by a Hong Kong snack bar. In one, a cop who's been recently dumped by his girlfriend becomes obsessed with the expiry dates on cans of pineapple; he's constantly distracted as he tries to track down a drug dealer in a blonde wig (played by Brigitte Lin, best known from Swordsman II and The Bride with White Hair). Meanwhile, another cop who's recently been dumped by his girlfriend (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, from John Woo's Hard-Boiled and A Bullet in the Head) mopes around his apartment, talking to his sponge and other domestic objects. He catches the eye of a shop girl (Hong Kong pop star Faye Wang) who secretly breaks in and cleans his apartment. If you're beginning to suspect that neither of these stories has a conventional plot, you're correct. What Chungking Express does have is loads of energy and a gorgeous visual style that never gets in the way of engaging with the charming characters. The film was shot on the fly by hip director Wong Kar-Wai (Happy Together, Ashes of Time), using only available lighting and found locations. The movie's loose, improvisational feel is closer to Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless than any recent film--and that's high praise. Maid In Manhattan (2002): Marisa Ventura is a single mother born and bred in the boroughs of New York City. She works as a maid in a first-class Manhattan hotel. By a twist of fate and mistaken identity Marisa meets Christopher Marshall a handsome heir to a political dynasty who believes that she is a guest at the hotel. Fate steps in and throws the unlikely pair together for one night. When Marisa's true identity is revealed the two find that they are worlds apart even though the distance separating them is just a subway ride between Manhattan and the Bronx.

  The Doctors: 30 Years of Time Travel and Beyond is a Doctor Who documentary directed by Bill Baggs, the independent producer behind Who-related video series Auton (1997-9), P.R.O.B.E. (1995-6) and The Stranger (1992-5). Amateurish production values include captions being cropped at the sides of the screen and microphones wandering fully into shot. But it's worth putting up with these for the many interviews, including those with Jon Pertwee, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. The highlight among the ex-Doctors being Peter Davidson talking in very good humour with Mark Strickson (Turlough). Other interviewees include Wendy Padbury (Zoe), Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier), Caroline John (Liz Shaw), Louise Jameson (Leela) and Sophie Aldred (Ace) reminiscing affectionately with McCoy at one of the locations for their Who adventure "Survival" (1989). Also offering their views are producers Philip Hinchcliffe (1974-7) and John Nathan-Turner (1980-9), director David Moloney, Shaun Sutton of BBC Drama, writers Pip and Jane Baker and various others. Included are some previously unpublished stills and colour location filming footage from "The Smugglers" (1966), "The Abdominal Snowman" (1967), "The Daemons" (1971) and "Shada" (1979). Covering the entire 26-year history of Doctor Who in 66 minutes means this is far from comprehensive, but for fans it is fascinating stuff elevated by the genuine love almost everyone involved clearly feels for the show. On the DVD: The Doctors: 30 Years of Time Travel and Beyond has production values far removed from the exceptionally well presented official BBC Doctor Who titles. The only extra is 12 minutes of silent colour location filming footage of very variable quality, selections from which are included in the main programme. In the documentary itself the sound is perfectly acceptable mono. Unfortunately the picture appears to have been transferred from a damaged video master and there is an almost constant horizontal tearing across the centre of the screen, varying from slight but noticeable to so extreme it makes the feature all but unwatchable. The packaging incorrectly names the director as Bill Braggs and describes the programme as giving an insight into "the design of the Ice Warrior and Cybermen models" featured in the last series.
