Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller join together to scratch beneath the surface of po-faced British respectability in their own sketch show Armstrong And Miller. From the divorced dad who 'bonds' with his son by giving brutally honest answers to innocent questions to an inappropriate dentist who treats his captive audience to tales of the state of his dog's prostate and swinger parties to a suburban husband who returns home from work to find his wife and his best friend Pete in full bondage gear Armstrong And Miller offer up a wealth of hilarious sketches.

TERRY DEVLIN: Oh yes Peter. Well from the very moment you convey this box set from your preferred retailer, be it high street shop, a superstore, a supermarket, or even an online, some might say virtual supplier, to your home NEWS PRESENTER: (Urging him on) But what of the actual content? The programmes contained on the discs? TERRY DEVLIN: I have been reliably informed, Peter, by the very individuals closest to Ben and Alexander that the box set could conceivably contain three whole series of comedy. NEWS PRESENTER: Comedy? TERRY DEVLIN: Oh yes Peter. BAFTA award-winning comedy. Or action, adventure, romance, science fiction, melodrama, perhaps even a murder mystery or one of the many, many branches of entertainment that are featured on a DVD release such as this. NEWS PRESENTER: Right. Well, more on the precise nature of this DVD box set later. But first a look at the extras

Howard's Christmas isn't off to a festive start when events at the office party ripple out to affect the in-laws' holiday gathering party and his dignity.
The discovery of a dead female staffer in a White House restroom galvanizes a D.C. homicide cop (Wesley Snipes), but the results aren't hard to predict: the crime implicates the Oval Office, the presidential bureaucracy impedes the investigation, and so on. What isn't so predictable is that the whole thing leads to an improbable climax involving secret tunnels created by Abraham Lincoln. (Snipes's character, by the way, is a Civil War buff.) The creaky mystery feels a little anachronistic from the get-go, with some particularly corny and laughable dialogue. --Tom Keogh

CSI: Miami follows the same super-successful formula as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Fortunately, this instantly popular spin-off established its own unique identity from the start. Like Gil Grissom's motley crew, the Dade County criminalists of CSI: Miami solve murders using forensic science. Unlike the Vegas crew, however, they're cops with the power to arrest, their coroner talks to dead people, and almost everybody speaks Spanish. Sometimes their crime scene is a swamp, sometimes a resort hotel. Either way, the skies are always sunny, the gators always biting. Real-life Florida resident David Caruso--playing Lt Horatio Caine, the head honcho--is joined by Khandi Alexander (NewsRadio) as coroner Alexx Woods, Emily Procter (The West Wing) as ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne, Adam Rodriguez (Roswell) as underwater recovery expert Eric Delko, and featured player Rory Cochrane (Dazed and Confused) as Tim "Speed" Speedle--though Cochrane wouldn't become a full-fledged cast member until the 12th episode ("Entrance Wound"). Kim Delaney (Caruso's former NYPD Blue cast mate) features in the first few episodes, but left after the tenth, reportedly due to a lack of chemistry with Caruso. Just as CSI has made the most of its location with stories about showgirls and casino owners, so has CSI: Miami exploited its surroundings for all they're worth. Like its parent show, CSI: Miami quickly became a US ratings powerhouse and was followed by CSI: New York in 2004. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
