Tony Scott) (2005): The already larger than life story of Domino Harvey (daughter of British actor Laurence Harvey) a former Ford model turned bounty hunter takes on mythological proportions in Tony Scott's fast-paced action thriller; fashioned from a script by Donnie Darko writer/director Richard Kelly. Unfolding in a non-linear fashion as bloodied Domino (Keira Knightley) is interrogated by iron faced officer Taryn Miles (Lucy Liu) the film traces the trajectory of Domino's tumultuous life. Beginning with the death of her father Domino develops into a hard nosed scrappy young woman who trains with nunchucks beside her mother's luxurious pool and responds violently to anyone who crosses her. Bored with the runway and the glamorous LA life Domino shows up for a bounty-hunter seminar. Catching the teachers of the seminar as they try to cut and run with the proceeds she manages to win their respect and joins their team. This consists of Ed Mosbey (Mickey Rourke) the tough-as-nails leader and Domino's surrogate father and Choco (Edgar Ramirez) an impulsive Venezuelan who harbors a not-so-secret love for Domino. The three form a kind of family working under Claremont Williams (Delroy Lindo) who plays Charlie to their three angels. For a time they are unstoppable even agreeing to let the slimy Mark Heiss (Christopher Walken) produce a reality-TV show about them which is hilariously hosted by Beverly Hills 90210 stars Ian Ziering and Brian Austin Green. But when Claremont orchestrates a complicated inside job in order to raise the money for his granddaughter's doctor bills the precarious balance within the trio is disturbed. Tom Waits stands out in a cameo as a wise wanderer who advises the lost bounty hunters.

  Allowing for all the low-budget shortcomings that plague any straight-to-video production, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation serves up 92 minutes of passable SF action. Parlaying his veteran status as an animator, special-effects wizard, and stalwart survivor of the CGI revolution, Phil Tippett (with returning screenwriter Ed Neumeier) makes a woefully uninspired directorial debut with this makeshift sequel to Paul Verhoeven's 1997 blockbuster, retaining the jarhead militarism of Robert Heinlein's original novel while serving up more bugs, an all-new cast of attractive young stars and all-too-familiar plot elements borrowed from a dozen better movies. "Bigger is better" is out of the question under such meagre budgetary circumstances, so Tippett and Neumeier compensate with gruesome bug fights and gross-out effects at regular intervals, some standard-issue nudity and escalating paranoia (echoing Carpenter's The Thing) when a new breed of bugs use human hosts (à la The Hidden) to overtake a stranded platoon of Federation soldiers on a bug-infested planet. Relying on murky confinement to hide nondescript sets, Starship Troopers 2 has three engaging leads in its favour: US TV regular Richard Burgi is solidly cast as the titular hero (he's the military equivalent of Pitch Black's Riddick); Colleen Porch is engaging as the most sensible Federation survivor; and screen veteran Ed Lauter makes the most of his salty role as a battle-hardened general. Unfortunately, they're adrift in a knock-off sequel (shot on high-def digital video) that could never do justice to its energetic predecessor. --Jeff Shannon

Hynkel is planning to march into Osterlich to show off against Napaloni Dictator of Bacteria who already has deployed his troops along the other border of the small country. Meanwhile Schultz and the barber manage to escape guised in military uniforms. As luck would have it Schultz and the barber are picked up by Tomanian forces and the barber is mixed up with Hynkel himself. The small barber now gets the once-in-a-lifetime chance to speak to the people of Osterlich and all of Tomania who listen eagerly on the radio.

  With a title like Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, you'd be excused from any great expectations here--but you'd also be missing out on one of trash-cinema's great pleasures: catching one of Hollywoood's A-list in their pre-fame days. In this case, the catch is Billy Bob Thornton, in a brief appearance as one of the Chopper Chicks' ex-husbands. It may be a guilty pleasure, but seeing this good 'ol boy playing dumb-as-a-doorknob long before Sling Blade (or A Simple Plan) and paying his dues is still, however strangely, gratifying. As for the film itself, Chopper Chicks is no Hell Comes to Frogtown, but it comes with all of the Troma hallmarks. The requisite beheadings and low-grade effects are all present and correct, along with the so-bad-it's-really-bad dialogue (except for the occasional so-bad-it's-good one-liner). The acting is wooden, the story negligible (cycle sluts come to town, kill zombies, save a schoolbus full of blind kids), and even the appearances by Thornton and original MTV (US) VJ Martha Quinn provide only occasional relief. The DVD extras include a photo gallery of screen-stills and the original trailer. --Randy Silver
