One Fierce Beer Run is a slipshod, formless, badly shot record of the Bloodhound Gang on tour. In fairness to the group, they make no claims for the quality of this release: indeed, the sleeve credits begin with what might well be the most self-effacing pitch in the history of marketing: "Whether you are currently a fan of the Bloodhound Gang or not, you won't be after experiencing One Fierce Beer Run". It's hard to imagine that the Gang themselves would want to sit through this random assortment of tour bus arguments and the kind of practical jokes, which would be dismissed by the producers of Jackass as that little bit too childish. One Fierce Beer Run was filmed around the world during 1996 and 1997, before the Bloodhound Gang enjoyed their moment of real global stardom with the heroically puerile Hooray for Boobies album. The videos, such as they are, are for earlier tracks, including "I Wish I Was Gay So I Could Get Chicks" and "Your Only Friends Are Make Believe", none of which, sadly, are as good as their titles. But the bulk of One Fierce Beer Run consists of home movies, which is a shame since, given that they are essentially a detention class with a recording contract, the Bloodhound Gang are clever and funny people and it's hard for the viewer not to feel, as their despairing lecturers surely did, that they could have done better. On the DVD: One Fierce Beer Run includes a scene selector, the option of a running commentary by Bloodhound Gang bass player Evil Jared, and a brief, utterly mystifying theatrical set-piece that rejoices in the title "Either You Suck Dick Or You Do Not Suck Dick"; this last may be the least immature item on the DVD. --Andrew Mueller
