Bruce Parry presenter of the BBC's Tribe has travelled the length of the Amazon to film a major new series for BBC Two.
Amazon presenter Bruce Parry turns his attention to the Arctic Circle. Indigenous ways of life that have remained virtually unchanged for millennia will cease within our lifetimes. Marine mammal hunters like the Inuit of Northern Greenland will have to find new ways to live in this harsh place. They are the last of their kind. But for others this rapidly changing world promises great opportunity. The Arctic is rich in oil gas and minerals. The US geological survey estimates that 25% of the world's undiscovered oil and gas could be located under the polar ice cap. However this series will not be a series about the politics or science of global warming. The focus will be human. Bruce and his BAFTA winning production team have found a method of telling important global stories with humour and warmth drawing a large young audience to often difficult issues. Same immersive format as Amazon with Parry embedding himself in a series of indigenous tribes plus camps of Westerners who make their living out of the region's natural resources.
Italian director Franco Zeffirelli stunned the world when he cast two young unknowns to portray the star crossed lovers in 'Romeo and Juliet' but it was a gamble that resulted in one of the most popular motion pictures of the time winning international acclaim and two Academy Awards. Shakespeare's classic romance comes to stunning visual life in a modern young person's interpretation bringing new vitality and a fresh insight to the most durable love story ever written.
Former Royal Marine officer and expedition leader Bruce Parry, sheds the trappings of a western existence and lives alongside tribes, such as the forest people of central Gabon, adopting their methods and practices.
Explorer Bruce Parry returns to our screens with his feature documentary directorial debut. Experience this immersive odyssey with Bruce as he travels the world living with indigenous peoples, delving deeper than ever on a journey into the heart of our collective human conscience. Tawai is the word the nomadic hunter gatherers of Borneo use to describe their inner feeling of connection to nature. In this dreamy, philosophical and sociological look at life, Bruce learns from people living lives very different to our own. From the jungles of Malaysia to the tributaries of the Amazon, TAWAI is a quest for reconnection, providing a powerful voice from the heart of the forest itself. Features: Deleted scenes from Colombia. Bruce and his brother Duncan take part in an Ayahuasca healing ceremony in southern Colombia. Deleted scenes from the Congo. Bruce meets the Mbendjele tribe of northern Congo, learning the ways of how they hold balance within their society and how, they believe, human civilisation came to be. Feature Commentary with Bruce Parry.
