These divorcees tried to get away from it all, especially each other, but their fresh starts are beginning to look suspiciously like their old ones… When George and Suzy Bassett (John Alderton and Hannah Gordon) finalise their divorce, they’re both eager for a new start in life. When they both decide to relocate to the countryside however, they are appalled to discover that they have accidentally moved into neighbouring cottages! The hilarious BAFTA winning sitcom was inspired by the rising divorce rates following the sexual liberations of the 1960s. Former BBC Broadcast Executive Sir Bill Cotton once cited My Wife Next Door as evidence that with the right treatment, any subject could be made funny. According to The Guardian the series made the concept of divorce watchable by treating the couple with affection and respect. Also featuring Diana King (The Very Merry Widow, Shillingbury Tales), Mollie Sugden (Are You Being Served?) and Richard Waring (Not in Front of the Children), the series was created by the great Brian Clemens OBE (The Avengers, The Professionals) and written by Richard Waring (Not in Front of the Children, And Mother Makes Three) Won the 1973 BAFTA for Best Situation Comedy Series Stars John Alderton (Please, Sir!) Created by Brian Clemens OBE (The Avengers (1961), The Professionals) Includes guest stars William Franklyn, Mollie Sugden and ‘Dad’s Army’ star James Beck

Behind the generic title of Boys and Girls lies a surprisingly enjoyable and nuanced romantic comedy. Teen heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr plays Ryan, a dorky, emotionally sincere young guy who keeps crossing paths with Jennifer (Claire Forlani), an independent and wilfully unattached young woman. Their chance meetings coincide with relationship traumas and they start to confide in each other, which leads to a more genuine friendship and, in the midst of their college years, a romance. It's a bit of a stock plot line to have their friendship threatened by sexual attraction, but Boys and Girls has just enough genuine feeling to make it compelling. Meanwhile, Jason Biggs (from American Pie) plays Ryan's roommate, a compulsive liar and would-be scam artist, who carries off some pretty funny scenes. Forlani and Prinze work together quite well. Their performances hearken back to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s, with the repressed male simultaneously attracted and horrified by a footloose dame. Some kooky moments are a little strained, but at other times the movie has a refreshing realism about human emotions. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

In Casper's Haunted Christmas, a direct-to-video animated film, the haunted world of spooks meets the happy spirit of Christmas--a faulty premise to begin with. The plot gets even more absurd when Kibosh, supreme ruler of all ghosts, declares that Casper's "scare quota" is way down. To avoid serious repercussions, Casper must scare at least one person before Christmas Day, or he will be banished to the dark side. Talk about a merry holiday tale! To force the fear factor, Kibosh catapults Casper and the Ghostly Trio to Chrismassachusetts, where they must find an unsuspecting victim to scare. Kindhearted Casper doesn't have the nerve to scare anyone, so the Ghostly Trio secretly hires Casper's loo k-alike cousin, Spooky, to do the job. There's no doubt the wide-eyed little ghost is endearing, but his heyday may have ended with his series in Harvey Comics. There are some redeeming moments of humour, such as when Spooky mistakenly calls himself "Casper, the Frenzied Ghost", and country singer Randy Travis does his best to add his musical charms to the score, but overall, Scrooge would be more welcome under the mistletoe than these bunch of ghouls. Teens may discover a few laughs (if the video can keep their attention), but mildly scary scenes, thematic elements and irreverent language suggest parental guidance for the younger set.
