  This is the film based on the 1970s TV sitcom Man About the House, made during the same period with the same cast. At the time, the whole idea of a single man and two single women sharing a flat, however (more-or-less) platonically, seemed terribly naughty. The scriptwriters wickedly stirred things up even further by making Richard O'Sullivan's character a randy-but-gentlemanly heterosexual, despite being a catering student--after all, in the 70s everyone just knew that all chefs were roaring poofs. The trio's sex-starved landlady (Yootha Joyce) and her rodent-like, impotent husband (Brian Murphy) were later to get their own series, George and Mildred. The plot is a perfunctory affair, as property developers attempt and fail to demolish the street in which the protagonists live. That said, the script (cowritten by John Mortimer) isn't really narrative-driven anyway, it's purely an excuse for the characters to interact with the will-they-won't-they-ooh-they-are-a-bit relationship between Robin and Chrissie (Paula Wilcox) and practically invites the viewer to cheer them on. While the transition to the big screen caused the idea to lose much of its energy, as a dollop of comedy nostalgia Man About the House is still great fun. And if you don't laugh at the jokes, just check out the clothes, cars, hairstyles and makeup, not to mention all that cigarette smoking! --Roger Thomas

  A show within a show along the lines of iCarly, Sonny with a Chance is a funny Disney Channel TV sitcom about friendship, pursuing one's dreams, and doing what's right. When country girl Sonny Munroe (Demi Lovato) from Wisconsin gets a chance to star in the Hollywood teen television comedy So Random!, moving to Hollywood is a no-brainer. Full of enthusiasm and great ideas for the show, Sonny hits her first roadblock immediately upon arriving on the set in "Sketchy Beginning." It seems her self-absorbed costar Tawni (Tiffany Thornton) doesn't want Sonny sharing her dressing room or the spotlight, and she's certainly not quiet about her displeasure. When Sonny's idea for a new sketch excites producer Marshall Pikes (Michael Kostroff) and the rest of the cast, Tawni is furious, and her bad attitude winds up getting her pulled from that week's show. On the plus side, Sonny's costars Zora (Allisyn Ashley Arm), Nico (Brandon Smith), and Grady (Doug Brochu) are quickly gaining an appreciation for Sonny and her sense of humor. "West Coast Story" introduces the So Random! cast's nemesis Chad Dylan Cooper (Sterling Knight), star of the competing teen drama McKenzie Falls. Sonny unwittingly stirs up a hornet's nest of trouble when she swoons over Chad and winds up losing the So Random! parking spot. Sonny tries to smooth things over with a peace picnic, but she quickly discovers that just because a concept works in Wisconsin, that doesn't mean it will work in Hollywood. In "Cheater Girls" it looks like Tawni and Sonny are finally starting to get along and work collaboratively, but geometry threatens the girls' friendship as well as their participation in that week's show. "Sonny at the Falls" is all about friendship, and when Sonny doesn't receive the support she needs from her fellow So Random! stars, she decides to find out what it's like to be a part of the McKenzie Falls gang.   Conceived with DVD release in mind, this high-end, live video concert taped in Jamaica lives up to its title with a generous repertoire of Bob Marley songs performed by reverent pop, hip-hop, rock and reggae veterans. Shot on a rainy night in December 1999, the home video version expands upon an inaugural TNT cable telecast with an additional hour of performances. The DVD edition adds a premium level of special features and exclusive content.The music's the main thing, of course, and on that front One Love is uniformly respectful, orbiting around Marley's songs and infused with whiffs of his Rastafarian world view and reggae's broader Third World perspectives. Marley's family members serve as hosts and frequent collaborators, with a limber house band further reinforcing a coherent, communal element to the performances, and the titular all-stars immerse themselves in Marley's world. Lauryn Hill opens the concert with what is clearly one of its highest points, a joyful "Turn the Lights Down Low". Chrissie Hynde and Erykah Badu take turns duetting with Jimmy Cliff, and another reggae titan, Toots Hibbert, proves a perfect, ebullient fit with a current line-up of the Wailers. The celebrity choices include a conspicuous subset of American folk-rockers in Tracy Chapman, Ben Harper and Hootie and the Blowfish's Darius Rucker, with Chapman the most convincing in a glowing version of "Three Little Birds".Avid reggae fans may be mildly frustrated by the overall crossover thrust of this homage, which favours Yankee rap and hip-hop (via Busta Rhymes and Queen Latifah) instead of home-grown dancehall; it tantalises us with glimpses of Marley's peers, like Cliff and Hibbert, while being largely occupied with sustaining its parade of non-reggae marquee names.
