Nelson Algren's novel was shocking when published in 1955 and the subsequent film directed by Otto Preminger was equally frightenly realistic. He started his working life for the circulation manager of the Jersey Observer and went on to become one of the world's most famous performers. From academy award winner to the recipient of many music awards this documentary takes you on a journey through the life and times of the man who did it his way.
