For Genesis fans old and new, The Way We Walk--Live in Concert has definitely been worth the wait. Recorded at London's Earl's Court in November 1992 as part of the group's 56-date world tour, the footage recreates one of their most lavish live tours ever. With a back-stage crew of over a 100, giant video screens and state-of-the-art lighting this was a massive event. The DVD is an equally colossal affair, incorporating over eight hours of concert footage on two discs (a two-hour concert recorded from four separate camera angles). The multi-camera presentation is amazing, providing a unique front-row perspective of all the stage action. The star of the concert is undoubtedly Phil Collins who leaps around, and batters his drum kit like a hormonal teenager. His evangelical introduction to "Jesus He Knows Me" is particularly fitting and amusing. There are also performances of some of Genesis' greatest hits, including "Dance on a Volcano", "Home By the Sea" and! "Invisible Touch". The re-mastered introduction to "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" sounds tremendous, with the flashing video screens creating an Armageddon-style atmosphere. Audience favourite "Turn It On Again" provides the ultimate ending to the show. On the DVD: The remixed, surround sound audio track is excellent but despite the multi-camera options the quality of the visual material fails to withstand the rigours of digital presentation. The uninterrupted group commentary is also disappointing, with too many lengthy silences, unnecessary disturbances (mobile phones ringing, unrelated discussions) and little new information about the tour given. The other extras are far more sophisticated such as the comprehensive interviews with Banks, Rutherford and Collins. The original tour programme (including text and photographs) can also be flicked through on screen. The "full-motion" menus are fun and easy to use.--John Galilee
When Peter Gabriel Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford joined forces in the late sixties their initial intentions were not to be recording artists in their own right but rather songwriters writing songs that would ultimately be recorded by other artists. That initial plan soon fell by the wayside when in the early seventies the group secured a record deal and started releasing albums as Genesis. During the subsequent years the group progressed from being at the forefront of the under

Professionally shot archive footage from the ABCAB album tour filmed at the Lyceaum Ballroom London May 1980! ""Dinosaurs"" is a term that seems to fit Genesis like no other band. Jointly with ""Yes"" Genesis have been the most influential band for generations of progressive rock bands. 1974 saw the release of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway an epic prog rock monument tuned to perfection. Not all was peaches and cream however when singer Peter Gabriel left the band after the supporting tour. After a long futile search for a new vocalist the remaining band members decided to let drummer Phil Collins take over the microphone - another stroke of genius. Whether it was mainly for Collins or not the band steadily drifted away from theatrical prog rock towards mainstream pop music. Perfect evidence is this 1980 concert at the Lyceum Ballroom in London which coincided with the work on their monster-selling studio album Abacab.
