In The Presidio the titular piece of real estate is the San Francisco military base that starts at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge and sprawls back into the city itself, co-existing uneasily with Baghdad by the Bay. The two cultures clash when a murder at the Presidio is assigned to civilian police detective Mark Harmon. Harmon has an uncomfortable history with the base commander, Sean Connery--and this relationship doesn't get any less tense when he also becomes romantically entangled with Connery's daughter, Meg Ryan. Unfortunately, the script by Larry Ferguson is a stiff, which suits Harmon's acting style. Director Peter Hyams knows how to choreograph an action sequence, but he has to keep stopping so that Harmon can actually speak. Thankfully, Harmon has the always-interesting Connery and Ryan to interact with, but that's only a small saving grace. --Marshall Fine, Amazon.com

Can the cops put a stop to Howard's demented spree before he claims yet another victim? The final collaboration between director James Bryan (Don't Go In The Woods) and producer-writer-star Renee Harmon (Lady Street Fighter), Jungle Trap is a surreal horror dreamscape about a jungle hotel haunted by kill-crazy ghosts in loin cloths. The movie was unedited, unscored, and unseen by human eyes for over two decades, until the Bleeding Skull! team meticulously edited the movie under Bryan's guidance and recorded a soundtrack utilizing vintage synthesizers. In its raw state, the movie was hugely entertaining. But in its long-delayed final form, it's a monumental video era triumph. Special Features: Jungle Trap transferred from the original ¾ master tapes Jungle Trap commentary track with director James Bryan, star Heidi Ahn and the Bleeding Skull! Team It Wasn't My Fault The Making of Jungle Trap Jungle Trap outtakes Horror Con (1998): surviving footage from James Bryan's unfinished horror movie, scanned in 2K from the 35mm negative Bonus movie: Run Coyote Run (1987), transferred from the original 3/4 master tapes.
No review of Lawn Dogs can adequately describe this extraordinary movie, nor can the title or any simple synopsis. In fact, there's no way of knowing what Lawn Dogs is really about until the very end when the last 90-minutes takes on a whole new significance. The basic story follows the formation and fruition of a simple friendship. Devon (astounding newcomer Mischa Barton) is a 10-year-old girl born to glamour magazine identikit parents who live in the plush US suburban Camelot Gardens Estate. Trent (Sam Rockwell) is a 20-something lawnmower man whom everyone considers trash and who lives in a forest trailer. As secret friends they fill the holes in one another's lives. She has no other friends because she thinks "other kids smell like TV". It's all perfectly sweet and innocent. But naturally there's no way the uptight neighbourhood would perceive it that way. A creeping sense of doom begins to overtake events; but it is where this seemingly obvious tale twists at the end that makes the community's darker quirks a revelation. On the DVD: Lawn Dogs on disc comes in a 16:9 transfer that retains the superb cinematography of endlessly stretching flat horizons. The three-channel sound is equally of benefit to a subtle bluesy score. Regrettably the only extra is a trailer. As a winner at numerous International Film Festivals, this picture really deserved something more. --Paul Tonks

Girl Play is a vivacious romantic comedy that is told through a series of humorous flashbacks. The story revolves around Robin Greenspan who is essentially ""married"" to her girlfriend and Lacie Harmon whose relationships don't seam to last past one night of passionate sex. They meet when they are cast to play lesbian lovers in a Los Angeles stage play. Innocently flamboyant stage director Gabriel directs the actresses through a series of rehearsals designed to ""bring out the intimacy"" in each performer. The two women find themselves increasingly and undeniably attracted to each other and overcome with desire. They must ask themselves whether this relationship is manufactured for the sake of the ""girl play"" or if it genuinely is true love. What follows is their personal journey to come to terms with their passionate feelings for each other and the life-altering choices they face. This film is sexy realistic and honest in its characterisations.
