Featuring original footage exclusive interviews and tracks dedicated to Kurt this director's cut DVD music documentry is a moving tribute to Kurt the man and his music from those who were inspired by his extraordinary genius. Bringing together his peers his friends those close to the band and not forgetting the loyal fans who keep his memory alive. Nirvana exploded onto a music scene that had no mind no depth and no substance. A young audience sick to the teeth of formula pop and sugar-coated safe rock was quickly seduced by the dark and dangerous charisma of this loud angry band hailing from 'nowhere' USA. This band was different it was multi-dimensional the songs could be angry ugly or beautiful as hell: Kurt Cobain's voice and the thrashing guitars a nightmare or the saddest lament for lost humanity. These paradoxes were the driving force behind one of the best live bands of all time - a real fans' band that loved nothing better than to entertain an audience.

At the beginning of this engrossing story Larry Kelly (the delectable Jeremy Irons) has become a manager of rock bands - much easier to handle he asserts than a temperamental opera star. Managing Maria Callas's late career has left him scorched by the star's brilliant fire. Visiting her palatial Paris apartment Kelly is shocked to find a broken and reclusive Callas humiliated by the deterioration of her voice. Determined to re-ignite her passion and restore her legacy he convinces her to take on an important project: a film of the opera Carmen in which she will lip-sync her own glorious recording of many years previous. Thus begins a reawakening of their former relationship mixing creative passion genius and drive in an incendiary cocktail. The stars are ably supported by a feisty Joan Plowright as their mutually supportive journalist friend newcomer Jay Rodan as Larry's handsome artist boyfriend and a wonderfully steamy performance from sexy Gabriel Garko as the tenor who worships Callas and yearns for his own opportunity for greatness. The special relationship between Callas (a luminous Fanny Ardant reprising her stage portrayal) and her former manager forms the heart of this compelling fictional imagining of the diva's swan song written and directed by the late Callas's friend and colleague Franco Zeffirelli (ROMEO AND JULIET) in a worthy tribute to his legendary friend

• Jerry Maguire | DVD | (30/01/2017) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £N/A

One of the best romantic comedies of the 1990s as well as a box-office hit, Jerry Maguire cemented writer-director Cameron Crowe's reputation as "the voice of a generation". Crowe could probably do without that label, but he's definitely in sync with the times with this savvy story about a sports agent (Tom Cruise) whose fall from grace motivates his quest for professional recovery, and the slow-dawning realisation that he needs the love and respect of the single mom (Renée Zellweger in her breakthrough role) who has supported him through the worst of times. This is one of Cruise's best, most underrated performances, and in an Oscar-winning role, Cuba Gooding Jr. plays the football star who remains Jerry Maguire's only loyal client on a hard road to redemption and personal growth. If that sounds touchy-feely, it is only because Crowe has combined sharp entertainment with a depth of character that is rarely found in mainstream comedy. --Jeff Shannon
