A showcase by the greats demonstrating new explorations and dimensions: 19 tracks featuring performances from Will Ackerman Jorma Kaukonen Bert Jansch Preston Reed Woody Mann and others.
This DVD features Jorma Kaukonen & Vital Parts. Kaukonen founded Jefferson Airplane together with Paul Kantner and Marty Balin and has been quoted as saying that the band name was based on his own nickname Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane which reflects Jorma's love of the blues and specifically Blind Lemon Jefferson. Parallel to his membership with Jefferson Airplane Jorma founded his own band Hot Tuna with which he tours to this day. He has always been more interested in blues and American roots music (blue grass) than in rock. Before going completely independent Hot Tuna performed as part of or following concerts by Jefferson Airplane. Jorma Kaukonen was born in Washington D.C. in 1940. Having moved to California he accompanied Janis Joplin among others on guitar at her first minor shows in bars and small clubs. Jorma Kaukonen has been inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame. The Rockpalast show took place on 29 November 1980 at the Kleine Westfalenhalle in Dortmund one day after the John Cipollina concert (available on another Rockpalast DVD).
