This massive 1977 adaptation by director Richard Attenborough (Gandhi) of Cornelius Ryan's novel features an all-star cast in an epic rendering of a daring but ultimately disastrous raid behind enemy lines in Holland during the Second World War. A lengthy and exhaustive look at the mechanics of warfare and the price and futility of war, the film is almost too large for its aims but manages to be both picaresque and affecting, particularly in the performance of James Caan. The impressive cast includes Robert Redford, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Dirk Bogarde, Sean Connery, and Liv Ullmann among others. While not a classic war film, it nevertheless manages to be a consistently interesting and exciting adventure. --Robert Lane, Amazon.com
This classic stage production gets a Hollywood make-over. James Stewart plays the title role as Elwood P. Dowd who befriends a human-sized rabbit by the name of Harvey: the trouble is only he can see him.
Hyperactive Julien (Guillaume Canet) and shy Sophie (Marion Cotillard) are pre-teen misfits who forge a bond based on their mutual hardships--for Julien it's his mother's terminal illness, and for Sophie it's the ridicule she receives for being Polish. They devise a game in which the passing of a tin carousel between them signals the recipient to carry out an outrageous dare designed by the other, with the trouble they get into only serving to bring them closer together. Ten years later, Julien and Sophie are in college--and while they have both grown to be attractive and intelligent, their relationship is still only platonic and their disruptive game still continues at a fevered pace. Continuing into adulthood and forging separate lives, their dares become more hurtful to each other. It soon becomes apparent that the game has only served to prevent them from admitting their true feelings for each other. This dark and whimsical debut from director Yann Samuell shows the influence of Luc Besson and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, sidestepping traditional French cinematic austerity in favor of splashy, big-budget visuals. In fact, the entrancing first act (in which Julien and Sophie are children) is bathed in a beautiful autumnal glow and features a kinetic style reminiscent of Jeunet's AMELIE. As Julien and Sophie's game escalates, LOVE ME IF YOU DARE lands in bleaker territory, with the performances of Canet and Cotillard and a daring ending giving this surprising romantic fantasy an uncommon resonance.
A warm, light-hearted detective series about an inspector who is assigned to investigate a murder on the paradise island of Saint-Marie in the Caribbean, despite his hatred of sun, sea and sand. With a new mind-boggling mystery to solve in every episode, Death in Paradise is an intriguing detective drama
It's always a small surprise to revisit this movie and realise what a subtly dark performance James Stewart gives as an alcoholic who claims he keeps company with a six-foot-tall, invisible rabbit. As Elwood P. Dowd, the actor emits a faint whiff of decay and spirits, yet Stewart also embraces Dowd's romanticism and grace with splendid ease. Based on a hit play and directed by Henry Koster, the film is terribly funny at times, especially whenever Elwood decides it is only polite to introduce Harvey to complete strangers. The supporting cast can't be beat. --Tom Keogh
Welcome to Holmfirth, a breathtakingly beautiful village in the heart of the Holme Valley, home to our favourite idiosyncratic retired gentlemen. As they amble about the countryside, these unlikely lads are now enjoying a mischievous second childhood, devising and executing a multitude of (grey) hare-brained schemes. Which is just what you'd expect from Britain's oldest, if not wisest adolescents, and their equally eccentric fellow townspeople. Helped by a supporting band of formidable wives, hen-pecked husbands, sexually-charged mistresses, inventors, pigeon fanciers and balding lotharios, our three heroes are never far from one adventure or another. It'll end in trouble especially when the formidable Nora Batty finds out. Collecting the first ten series of one of the BBC's most popular and enduring comedies, the Early Years box set features 75 episodes, including memorable classics such as Forked Lightning where Clegg (Peter Sallis) has several extremely embarrassing accidents on his bicycle and And Who's That Dancing With Nora Batty Then? Where Compo (Bill Owen) finally gets to dance with Nora Batty, which ends after he steps on her foot.
After rising to stardom in the unforgettable role of Mr Humphries in the BBC's 'Are You Being Served?', John Inman starred in this ITV sitcom as Neville Sutcliffe, the owner of a Blackpool chippy who relocates to Sussex, where he has inherited his late father's seaside-rock factory, and rapidly finds he's bitten off more than he can chew! Produced by ‘Carry On veteran’ Gerald Thomas, this complete series also features sitcom favorite Josephine Tewson as Neville's less than welcoming step-sister, who has inherited the other half of the ailing business; Allan Cuthbertson, Victor Maddern and David Lodge are among the guest stars.

This comedy series written by Ronnie Barker and set in 1937 is something of a lost classic. Barker plays Clarence Sale short-sighted removals man and suitor of Jane a ladies' maid. Ostensibly a comedy of manners with moments of slapstick mayhem (he's as blind as a bat!) Clarence resurrects the title character from an episode of the 1971 ITV series Six Date With Barker and was Barker's final TV project before retiring. Featuring all 6 episodes.

Christmas may come but once a year but for arch-snob Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet if you please) disaster drama and humiliation – all obstacles on the ladder to social-climbing success – are far more frequent. In these Christmas Specials we see a delightful cruise on the QE2 start in a less-than-delightful muddy fi eld. We see a glorious English Civil War pageant with Hyacinth as Queen Henrietta Maria go royally wrong when the cast fails to turn up and her unsavoury relatives step into the breach. And we see that even The Season of Good Will isn’t immune from woe as a sherry-fuelled Richard dressed as Santa brings Hyacinth tidings devoid of any comfort and joy.
