  The Corrs--Live in London lacks the atmosphere of their 1999 homecoming Dublin gig, Live at Lansdowne Road. The London stadium location creates a sterile atmosphere and adds an uncomfortable, claustrophobic edge to their performance. That aside, the concert once again affirms their position as one of the best live acts around and resolutely challenges the assumption that studio recordings are always better than the live versions. Perhaps this is why it was decided to release another Corrs live show rather than a greatest hits video collection to coincide with the launch of their Best of audio anthology. Hearing and viewing their stunning performance of tracks such as "Forgiven, Not Forgotten" and "Dreams", it's easy to understand why the band still has such universal appeal.On the DVD: the group's exquisite rendition of "Happy Christmas (War is Over)", included as a bonus track, is one of the numerous added features. Choose from three different audio formats to listen to the concert and view the show in wide screen or standard picture format. The concert cinematography is excellent, with crystal-clear picture quality. The live performances of "Dreams", "Radio" and "Breathless" can also be viewed from five different camera angles. However the 360-degree camera angle version of "So Young" (available only to those accessing the disk on a DVD-ROM drive) fails to live up to expectation: the viewing window is tiny, and the picture quality particularly poor. The 20-minute "Access All Areas" documentary (made by and originally shown on Sky One) is excellently produced and provides an added, more personable dimension to the DVD.--John Galilee

  Southern Comfort is more than merely Deliverance in the Louisiana Bayou. Walter Hill's taut little tale of weekend warrior National Guardsman on swamp exercises reverberates with echoes of Vietnam. Powers Booth brings a hard pragmatism to the "new guy" in the unit, a Texas transplant less than thrilled with his new unit. "They're just Louisiana versions of the same rednecks I served with in El Paso", he tells level-headed Keith Carradine. The barely functional unit of city boys and macho rednecks invade the environs of the local Cajun trappers and poachers, "borrowing" the locals' boats and sending bursts of blank rounds over their heads in a show of contempt. Before they know it the dysfunctional strangers in a strange land are on the losing end of guerrilla war. The swamp rats kill their commanding officer (Peter Coyote) and terrorise the bickering bunch as they flee blindly through the jungle without a map, a compass, or a leader to speak of. Hill directs with a clean simplicity, creating tension as much from the primal landscape and the Cajuns' unsettling reign of terror as from the dynamics of a platoon of battle virgins tearing itself apart from rage and fear.   Riding the coat-tails of the early 1990's Western revival, the HBO television movie The Last Outlaw is a good, taut B-picture evoking the conventions of bigger and better Spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s and 70s. Set in New Mexico in 1873, from the opening bank robbery onwards the movie plays like The Wild Bunch meets High Plains Drifter, the obsessive, psychotic Colonel Graff (Mickey Rourke at his best) hunting down his own men after they refuse to abandon an injured comrade. Facing up to Graff is the impressively understated Dermot Mulroney as Eustis, a man who has seen too much killing and simply wants it to stop. Writer Eric Red spins some interesting variations on a classic Western set-up, delivering a comparable psychological intensity to his earlier The Hitcher (1986); as the story unfolds Graff becomes an avenging emissary of death, the tale assuming a timeless mythological resonance. Director Geoff Murphy stages what comes down to one long chase with considerable style, and while there's nothing here fans of the genre haven't seen many times before, in an age starved of Westerns that's actually a large part of the appeal. --Gary S Dalkin

Unique in its vision consistent in its comedy this is entertainment at its finest the kind that only comes with The Good Life.

  Out of Sight was one of the best movies of 1998 but ironically this superior crime comedy was a box-office disappointment. Fortunately the movie can enjoy a long life on home video and DVD, where it can be savoured by anyone who missed its original release. Making one of his strongest films since his 1989 debut Sex, Lies, and Videotape and his recent hit Erin Brockovich, director Steven Soderbergh pays tribute to the signature wit and intricacy of Elmore Leonard's novel, brilliantly adapted by Scott Frank, the gifted screenwriter who previously adapted Leonard's Get Shorty. The movie is primarily a showcase for the talent and chemistry of George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, respectively playing a career bank robber who has escaped from jail and the federal agent who falls for his charms while tracking him down. Soderbergh directs with confident visual flair, shifting timelines (à la Pulp Fiction) to weave together subplots and maintain vivid focus on Leonard's splendid characters and smooth-as-silk dialogue. While the sexy repartée between Clooney and Lopez recalls the vintage interplay of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Ving Rhames and Steve Zahn add ample comic relief as Clooney's accomplices. Dennis Farina is memorable as Lopez's father and Albert Brooks is almost unrecognisable as a Wall Street crook whose mansion--and a cache of uncut diamonds--provides the setting for the film's climactic caper. As orchestrated by Soderbergh, the film offers a feast of plot twists and surprises but it never loses track of its delightful characters and the clever wit that brings them so vividly to life. --Jeff Shannon
