Paul Schrader's visually stunning, collagelike portrait of the acclaimed Japanese author and playwright Yukio Mishima (played by Ken Ogata) investigates the inner turmoil and contradictions of a man who attempted the impossible task of finding harmony among self, art, and society. Taking place on the last day of Mishima's life, when he famously committed public seppuku, the film is punctuated by extended flashbacks to the writer's past as well as gloriously stylized evocations of his fictional works. With its rich cinematography by John Bailey, exquisite sets and costumes by Eiko Ishioka, and unforgettable, highly influential score by Philip Glass, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters is a tribute to its subject and a bold, investigative work of art in its own right.United States, Japan1985121 minutesBlack and White/Colour1.85:1JapaneseSpine #432DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES4K digital restoration of the director's cut, supervised and approved by director Paul Schrader and cinematographer John Bailey, with 2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrackOne 4K UHD disc of the film and one Blu-ray with the film and special featuresTwo alternate English narrations, including one by actor Roy ScheiderAudio commentary featuring Schrader and producer Alan PoulProgram on the making of the film featuring Bailey, producers Tom Luddy and Mata Yamamoto, composer Philip Glass, and production designer Eiko IshiokaProgram on Yukio Mishima featuring his biographer John Nathan and friend Donald RichieAudio interview with co-screenwriter Chieko SchraderInterview excerpt from 1966 featuring Mishima talking about writingThe Strange Case of Yukio Mishima, a 1985 documentary about the authorTrailerPLUS: An essay by critic Kevin Jackson, a piece on the film's censorship in Japan, and photographs of Ishioka's setsCover by Neil Kellerhouse

Jakoman and Tetsu is an early action masterpiece from Kinji Fukasaku (Battles Without Honor and Humanity, Battle Royale), adapted from a script written by the legendary Akira Kurosawa. Set in 1947 in a small coastal village among the majestic snowy landscapes of Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido, Ken Takakura (the Abashiri Prison series, Ridley Scott's Black Rain) is Tetsu, the prodigal son who returns from the war to help out his father Kyubei with the family herring fishing business. His arrival coincides with that of a one-eyed miscreant named Jakoman, played by Tetsuro Tamba (Harakiri, You Only Live Twice), who bears a long-standing grudge against Kyubei and is intent on causing as much mayhem among the hordes of seasonal fishermen as possible.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-speciesthought to be mere mythsrise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.
An emotionally powerful and sharply relevant adaptation of JB Priestley's timeless masterpiece. An Inspector Calls is both an enthralling mystery and a scathing critique of a hypocritical, class-obsessed society. Set in 1912, it vividly evokes a thriving industrial age built on crippling social inequality. Taking place over the course of a single night, this taut, affecting and ultimately tragic story centres on the prosperous Birling family. They receive a surprise visit from Inspector Goole (David Thewlis) who is investigating the suicide of a young girl, a former factory worker of Mr Birling's. Interrogating each family member in turn, Goole's incisive questioning reveals that each one not only had a connection to the girl but also may have played a significant part in her demise. As the family's callous actions are brought to light, so are dark and shameful secrets that threaten to tear the Birling household apart and destroy its reputation. David Thewlis (Harry Potter, War Horse) stars as The Inspector, Ken Stott (The Hobbit, Rebus) stars as Arthur Birling and Miranda Richardson (Mapp & Lucia, Parades End) stars as his wife Sybil Birling. Also starring Chloe Pirrie (The Game, Black Mirror), Kyle Soller (Poldark, Anna Karenina), Sophie Rundle (Happy Valley, Peaky Blinders) and Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders).

Pauline Collins repeats her stage success as the character Shirley Valentine, a married woman who decides in her middle years that she wants more out of life. Leaving her spouse behind, she heads to Greece, where she grows close to a low-key local bloke (Tom Conti). Collins and director Lewis Gilbert (Educating Rita) choose to let the character, as she did in the play, speak directly to the audience at times and the gamble works in terms of creating a gentle, intimate atmosphere. Conti is a bonus, a warm presence and funny to boot. --Tom Keogh
