Fed up with waitressing, Jade Cochran (Claire Brennen) embarks on a new life with a traveling carnival. But she discovers that what lurks behind the curtain doesn't take too kindly to her backstabbing plans. A gutter-noir reworking Tod Browning's FREAKS and a valentine to the carnival lifestyle that defined the career of producer David F. Friedman (BLOOD FEAST), SHE FREAK is a snapshot of life, love, and revenge on the grounds of a seedy carnival in Smalltown, USA complete with crackpot monster make-up effects from Harry Thomas (PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE). • Lee Evans - So What Now? Series 1 [2001]Lee Evans - So What Now? Series 1 | DVD | (12/11/2001) from £19.75   |  Saving you £0.24 (1.22%)   |  RRP £19.99

After a string of successes on the big screen, So What Now marks the return of comedian Lee Evans to television and his first sitcom. Scripted by Evans himself, the show has an old-fashioned feel to it, recalling at times various comedy series of the 1970s. Evans' character, Lee, is a mere extension of his live performance persona--a rambling, accident-prone loser whose split from his wife forces him into a domestic situation with the slovenly Stuart (O'Donnell) and man-eating yuppie, Heather (Thomson). There is much of Michael Crawford's hapless Frank Spencer in Lee, especially in the visual set pieces that form the cornerstone of the show. Given his strong acting and writing pedigree, this has to be seen as a disappointment for Evans; the combination of weak script and less than inspiring performances mean that So What Now is only a sporadic success. --Phil Udell

A dazzling action movie from South Korea, Shiri follows two South Korean government agents, Ryu and Lee, as they pursue a female super-assassin from North Korea. Meanwhile, an elite paramilitary squad from North Korea has stolen a shipment of CTX, an undetectable liquid explosive of enormous power, which they've planted all over the city of Seoul. As their investigations are successively foiled, Ryu and Lee begin to suspect that there is a mole within the ranks of the agency--and it may be one of them. Both hyperstylish and hyperrealistic, Shiri rips along as a smooth fusion of Hong Kong and American action movies. Ryu's troubled romance with his alcoholic fiancée adds a striking emotional counterpoint to the blazing gunfights and high-speed chases; the ending is unexpectedly moving. It's not surprising that this film beat Titanic's box-office records in Korea. --Bret Fetzer
