From this day to the ending of the world we in it shall be remembered. We few we happy few we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother. From Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg HBO presents the story of Easy Company - an elite team of U.S. paratroopers whose WWII exploits are as incredible as they are true. Based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose the epic 10-part miniseries Band Of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division U.S. Army. Drawn from interviews with survivors of Easy Company as well as soldiers' journals and letters Band Of Brothers chronicles the experiences of these men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear. They were an elite rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day morning fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. They were also a unit that suffered vast casualties and whose lives became legend. They were ordinary men swept up in the most extraordinary conflict in history. With the eyes of the world upon them they found their greatest source of strength in one another.

  • Band Of Brothers Band Of Brothers | DVD | (05/11/2002) from £14.99  |  Saving you £25.49 (42.50%)  |  RRP £59.99

A genuinely epic achievement, the 10-part World War II drama Band of Brothers is a television series that makes big-screen Hollywood war movies look small in comparison. Based on the book by historian Stephen Ambrose, the series follows the US 101st Airborne Division's "Easy" E-Company from initial training through D-Day and across Holland, Belgium, Germany and Austria until the end of the war. Coproduced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the series take its initial inspiration from Saving Private Ryan and borrows that film's visceral visual approach to combat scenes using hand-held camerawork and de-saturated photography. But where Band of Brothers excels is in its scrupulous attention to the realities of military life (retired US Marine Captain Dale Dye, who also co-stars, is the man to credit). After the high drama of the parachute drop on D-Day, Easy's greatest trial comes during the Battle of the Bulge, when they are besieged at Bastogne in the depths of winter. In one of the most harrowing and credible depictions of war ever committed to film we see the men enduring the repeated artillery attacks of the German forces and experience, if only vicariously, some of the sheer terror of the assault, while being humbled by the soldiers' courage and determination. Such feelings are enhanced by the series' masterstroke--bookend interviews with the surviving members of Easy Company, who talk with barely suppressed emotion of the experiences we see recreated. The endorsement of these veterans elevates Band of Brothers beyond any mere "war film"--its extraordinary achievement is that it shows the horror and savagery of war without gloss or jingoism, and yet celebrates the fraternal bonds and dogged heroism of the men who fought. On the DVD: Band of Brothers arrives handsomely packaged in a six-disc box set with two episodes on each of the first five discs. Sound (Dolby 5.1) and picture (1.78:1 widescreen) only enhance the series' epic credentials. Disc 6 contains all the extras, the meatiest of which is the marvellous 80-minute documentary "We Stand Alone Together" about the real men of Easy Company. There's also a first-rate, genuinely interesting 30-minute "making of" feature about actor boot camp, visual effects and blowing up fake trees among many other things. This is complemented by actor Ron Livingston's revealing Video Diaries of boot camp. Additionally there's a "Who's Who" section and footage of the HBO premiere at Utah Beach, plus a TV spot for car company Jeep. --Mark Walker

Southland - Season 3 A raw, authentic look at the lives and work of detectives and beat cops in Los Angeles, Southland takes viewers directly to the streets for an intensely personal, first-person look that redefines the police drama. Shot on location in the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, Southland captures a realistic, natural environment where similar situations can and often do occur in real life. In Southland, Regina King stars as Detective Lydia Adams, who seems to make every case personal. Adams has gone through several partners recently, with her most recent being Detective Josie Ochoa (recurring guest star Jenny Gago), a tough, take-charge investigator whose style often conflicts with Lydia. Officer John Cooper (series star Michael Cudlitz) is a seasoned cop who is starting to show some cracks. His partner, Officer Ben Sherman (series star Ben McKenzie) came to him as a rookie, but is now growing up fast on the force. John has taught Ben much of what he knows about how to handle himself on the street, but Ben's growing concern over his partner's addiction to prescription pain killers threatens to drive a wedge between them. Detective Sammy Bryant (series star Shawn Hatosy) is part of the LAPD's gang task force with his partner, Detective Nate Moretta (series regular Kevin Alejandro). Sammy frequently faces issues with his wife, a photographer with past drug problems. Nate, an Army vet, cares deeply about his kids, including a daughter who only recently found out he was her father. Southland's returning cast ensemble also includes: Arija Bareikis as Officer Chickie Brown, and C. Thomas Howell as her recovering-alcoholic partner, Officer Billy Dewey; Michael McGrady as Detective Daniel Salinger, the head of the gang division; and Tom Everett Scott as Russell Clarke, Lydia's former partner who is now working a desk job after being shot. This season on Southland, Lydia has difficulty adjusting to her mother's return home from Europe with a new boyfriend in tow. The relationship forces Lydia to consider her own life and the fact that she remains a single woman. Meanwhile, Ben continues to come into his own as a cop, but he feels increasing pressure to intervene in John's addiction. And Sammy and his wife face a major life change that could have devastating consequences for their marriage. Southland - Season 4 From Emmy® Award winners Christopher Chulack (ER) and John Wells (ER) comes a raw and authentic look at a police unit in Los Angeles. From the hills of Hollywood to the streets of East L.A., Southland is an intense, fast-moving drama that takes you inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families. Last season saw veteran Los Angeles cop John Cooper increasingly dependent on painkillers, jeopardizing his ability to mentor and properly train rookie officer Ben Sherman. Cooper was given an ultimatum: Get help or get turned in. Meanwhile, Detective Lydia Adams, a seasoned officer, finally made steps to advance her oft-left-behind personal life -- but at the cost of losing her partner's trust. And, in a shocking turn of events, gang detective Sammy Bryant was left reeling from the sudden and brutal murder of his partner; after witnessing the birth of his son with his estranged wife, Bryant made the decision to leave the gang taskforce and rejoin the ranks of uniformed cops. As the acclaimed series continues for season four, Bryant and Sherman are partnered together to patrol and protect the streets of L.A., where anything can -- and does -- happen.
