Meet the BBC's answer to Laurel and Hardy! Young bachelor Terry Scott (Hancock's Half Hour, Terry and June) lives with his mother at 33 Lobelia Avenue in Tooting. He passes his days dreaming of easy wealth no hard work required. Simpleton Hugh Lloyd (Cider With Rosie, Foyle's War) is Terry's lodger. When he's not hard at work at the local aircraft factory, he whiles away his free time getting haplessly roped into Hugh's get-rich-quick schemes. Very successful pairing that drew on Laurel and Hardy Comedy.co.uk This hilarious sitcom sees the unlikely twosome encounter all sorts of scrapes and mishaps as bully boy Terry pursues wealth and glory, with the kind but dim-witted Hugh trailing along behind. The series also stars Molly Sugden (Are You Being Served?) as snobby neighbour Mrs Crispin and Patricia Hayes (A Fish Called Wanda, The Never Ending Story) as the altogether dodderier neighbour Mrs Wormold. Produced by master of the sitcom, David Croft, who was also responsible for co-writing Dad's Army, Are You Being Served?, It Ain't Half Hot Mum, Hi-de-Hi and Allo Allo Relive the magic of this electric comedy pairing with all the surviving episodes from Series One and Two.

From the ground-breaking comedic pen of Carla Lane (Solo/Bread/ Butterflies) and Myra Taylor, Polly James is Beryl and Nerys Hughes is Sandra in The Liver Birds. Beryl and Sandra are flatmates - roommates really given the size of their accommodation - in 1970s' Liverpool. With a rivalry and friendship that bounces off the screen, the bed and the couch, the two girls grapple with boyfriends, bigger flats, smaller dogs, unaffordable holidays, sister's weddings, challenging parents and feisty old grandads, all while having the time of their lives. In addition to all twelve episodes, this release features a new and exclusive interview with Polly James and Nerys Hughes, giving insight into the love, the laughter, and how they made it all happen. From the unforgettable hit theme tune by The Scaffold to the laugh-a-minute scripts and pitch-perfect performances, The Liver Birds lights up the screen as bright and beautiful as the city that inspired it. Writers Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft managed something quite clever with this, the film version of the 1970s sitcom Are You Being Served?. The idea of this cheery collection of comedy stereotypes--the pompous one, the vulgar one, the camp one, the shifty one and so on--being confined within a department store was a master stroke, as it allowed any kind of situation to arise without the plot having to exceed the restrictions imposed by the set. How, then, to keep the same theme for the big screen without just offering the television series writ large? Simple: send the whole cast on holiday together but make sure they can't leave their hotel, a state of affairs contrived easily enough by throwing a guerilla uprising into the plot. So it is, then, that the staff of Grace Bros. descend on the Costa Plonka while the store is closed for refurbishment. There are all the usual jokes involving knickers, boobs, toilets and gay sex (sometimes all at once), adding up to a good slice of nostalgic fun for anyone who was there when lapels really were that wide. Incidentally, this item is worth having just for the wonderful Frank Langford caricatures on the cover. On the DVD: Are You Being Served? comes to the digital format with just one extra item, a trailer.--Roger Thomas
Irene Handl and Wilfred Pickles star as two senior citizens who fall in love in this gentle sitcom, written by Vince Powell and Harry Driver (Nearest and Dearest, Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width). Beryl (Polly James) and Sandra (Nerys Hughes) are two lively friends sharing a bedsit in Liverpool. Their place is in Huskisson Street where all the action happens. Beryl's the spontaneous and scatty one whereas Sandra is quieter more cautious and refined. What they have in common is romance finance and family trouble which keeps them occupied when they're not checking out the latest fashions. First broadcast in 1971 this release features every episode from Series Two of Carla Lane's The Liver Birds.
