A show within a show along the lines of iCarly, Sonny with a Chance is a funny Disney Channel TV sitcom about friendship, pursuing one's dreams, and doing what's right. When country girl Sonny Munroe (Demi Lovato) from Wisconsin gets a chance to star in the Hollywood teen television comedy So Random!, moving to Hollywood is a no-brainer. Full of enthusiasm and great ideas for the show, Sonny hits her first roadblock immediately upon arriving on the set in "Sketchy Beginning." It seems her self-absorbed costar Tawni (Tiffany Thornton) doesn't want Sonny sharing her dressing room or the spotlight, and she's certainly not quiet about her displeasure. When Sonny's idea for a new sketch excites producer Marshall Pikes (Michael Kostroff) and the rest of the cast, Tawni is furious, and her bad attitude winds up getting her pulled from that week's show. On the plus side, Sonny's costars Zora (Allisyn Ashley Arm), Nico (Brandon Smith), and Grady (Doug Brochu) are quickly gaining an appreciation for Sonny and her sense of humor. "West Coast Story" introduces the So Random! cast's nemesis Chad Dylan Cooper (Sterling Knight), star of the competing teen drama McKenzie Falls. Sonny unwittingly stirs up a hornet's nest of trouble when she swoons over Chad and winds up losing the So Random! parking spot. Sonny tries to smooth things over with a peace picnic, but she quickly discovers that just because a concept works in Wisconsin, that doesn't mean it will work in Hollywood. In "Cheater Girls" it looks like Tawni and Sonny are finally starting to get along and work collaboratively, but geometry threatens the girls' friendship as well as their participation in that week's show. "Sonny at the Falls" is all about friendship, and when Sonny doesn't receive the support she needs from her fellow So Random! stars, she decides to find out what it's like to be a part of the McKenzie Falls gang. With good production values and a load of suspense, the direct-to-video thriller Atomic Train delivers the goods--ahead of schedule. A rich bureaucrat with a Porsche, a goatee and a defective sense of morality places a defective Russian nuclear warhead aboard a defective American train for cheap disposal but the engine loses its brakes and hurls out of control toward Denver. Will it explode? Will it wipe out half the city? Will the thoughts and prayers of the President--played by Edward Herrmann, in his best Chrysler-salesman mode--do any good? Will Rob Lowe, the major hero of this epic, ever be able to save his career? Atomic Train hauls along every disaster-flick formula you can think of: an estranged couple bonding again during a time of crisis; urban rioting and mayhem; government officials wearing headsets and breathlessly watching video monitors; trigger-happy military men; high-speed stunts; escapes by helicopter; clean-up crews in white spacesuits; many scenes of families being reunited after sub-plot cliffhangers, to major-key crescendos on the soundtrack. The only stereotypical element missing is a dog saved from a fire at the last minute. But, you have to admit, what Atomic Train does it does with pizzazz, a post-Armageddon tone of overly heroic but ultimately disposable machismo and explosions... lots of explosions. --Robert Burns Neveldine, Amazon.com

Too mainstream to be a cult, yet too odd to be totally conventional, Ally McBeal has become one of televisions curios. While its early days saw the show become something of a victim of its own self-conscious stylising, the episodes included on series 4 volume 2 are far stronger in terms of characterisation and plot and the storylines are easy to pick up. Not that the quirks have been exiled--the first programme features McBeal hallucinating about Barry Manilow--rather they have now become part of the overall feel of the show. Despite the attention lavished on both the lead character and the actress who plays her, the show is a real ensemble piece and works best when all the players are together. One of the collection's weakest moments is the episode that sends the usually excellent Richard and John off to LA on their own, an episode which lays threat to a dreaded spin off. While there are annoying moments--could they not have edited out the "previously on Ally McBeal" parts for retail release and why do they never go out with anyone other than work colleagues--with guest appearances from the likes of Sting this is a must for any fan of the series. On the DVD: Sadly, the DVD collection betrays very little thought or effort. The pace of the show is certainly brisk (especially when shorn of the adverts) and the picture quality is equally dynamic, instilling real depth to the many aerial shots of Boston itself. Given that music is such an integral part in the show, it is no surprise that the soundtrack has been given a boost by its recreation in Dolby digital stereo. The interactive menu, however, is clumsy to use and having to work back through the options at the end of each episode quickly becomes tiresome. The complete lack of any extras whatsoever is also a definite minus point.--Phil Udell
