Irish Hooley - The Best Ever Collection Of Irish Pub Songs
There will always be speculation as to whether Shirley Temple could have made a successful transition from child star to adult star but by the time she left her teenage years she was married and looking to raise a family so turned her back on Hollywood. She left behind a rich legacy of both short subjects and feature length films. In the latter category is The Little Princess her first technicolour film and included here. In the former category are several shorts made between 1932 and 1934 and are included on two of the discs in this collection. 1. The Little Princess 2. Collection Vol 1 3. Collection Vol2

The Little Princess is living proof that Shirley Temple was much more than just a dimpled tot who could sing and dance on cue. Her tearful reunion with her missing dad (Ian Hunter) in a hospital ward at the conclusion of this classic story should move even the most hardened cynic. Her tears range from joy to hysteria as she tries to tell the shell-shocked soldier that she is his daughter. This is a lavish production with Shirley Temple at 12 doing an expert job as Sara the little miss who has to bear the indignities of a boarding school once her father has been declared dead in the Boer War. The harsh mistress (Mary Nash) has her stripped of all privileges and makes her live in the attic while becoming a servant in the very household where she was once called `The Little Princess by the other girls. There are departures from the original novel since the script is given a `Shirley Temple formula to ensure its success as the right vehicle for her at that time. It succeeds in being a heart-warming tale of a girls courage and determination when it seems that there is no hope of finding her father alive. The ending with Queen Victoria giving Shirley an approving nod is an added delight. One of Shirleys best performances with a wonderful cast of supporting players.

Shirley Temple is arguably the most popular and famous child star of all time. Known for her blond ringlets and her ability to sing and tap-dance she appeared in dozens of films and was Hollywood's biggest box-office attraction from 1936 to 1938. Shirley's popularity and the large gross revenues her films generated transformed the struggling Fox Film Corporation into a major film studio. Temple began her career in a series of Baby Bulesks short subjects that featured children in adult roles that today would be considered highly inappropriate. However when Fox signed her in 1934 the studio abandoned the infant sexpot image and let her be what she really was - an energetic resilient good-natured little girl. Sophisticated and by all measures a highly professional performer Temple had no difficulty upstaging her experienced costar many of whom were veteran performers. Among the films Temple made for Fox were The Little Colonel Curly Top Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and The Little Princess. Although Temple made a number of films as a teenager among them Miss Annie Rooney (1942) and The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer (1947) America had seemingly outgrown its infatuation with Shirley. The films were not successful and in 1949 she retired from acting at the age of twenty-one. This film collection features many classic moments from Shirley Temple's relatively short but enormously successful screen career. Episodes Comprise: 1. Glad Rags To Riches 2. War Babies 3. Shirley Temple took dance lessons at the age of three at Meglin's Dance School in Los Angeles and was spotted by Charles Lamont a casting director from Educational Pictures. Although Shirley hid behind a piano whilst in the studio Lamont took a shine to Shirley invited her to audition and subsequently signed her to a contract. Educational Pictures were just about to launch their series of Baby Burlesks a series of short films that satirized recent films and political events with pre-school children in every role. Since the children were dressed as adults and given mature dialogue the entire series was eventually seen as dated and exploitive although not before they had made a major star out of Shirley Temple. Shirley would go on to appear in many full length feature films further enhancing her reputation but the original shorts featured here and in a second volume illustrate perfectly why she was the biggest child star of the 1930s. Set Comprises: Polly Tix In Washington: An attempt is made to corrupt an honest Washington politician. Greenberg unites Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents, Zoolander, Tropic Thunder) with Academy Award-nominated writer and director Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Fantastic Mr. Fox) in walking the fragile line between humour and heartbreak to tell the witty and moving tale of Roger Greenberg. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh (Margot at the Wedding, The Anniversary Party), Rhys Ifans (The Boat that Rocked, Notting Hill) and Greta Gerwig (Nights and Weekends), Greenberg proves that mid-life may just be the ideal time to finally decide to grow up and embrace the life you never planned on. After a stint in New York and another in a mental institution, Roger Greenberg (Stiller) is single, fortyish and deliberately doing nothing with his life. Wondering how life sent him adrift, he is in search of a place to re-start and agrees to house-sit and look after pet dog Mahler for six weeks in Los Angeles for his younger brother while he vacations with his family in Vietnam. Greenberg grew up in L.A. and often reflects on re-visiting the past, where he clearly feels that his life broke off. However, since envy and paranoia eat away at every connection he seems to make, whether a thorny one with a highly successful, former college bandmate or a reunion with his patient, soft-spoken old friend Ivan (Ifans), who's living in a motel while separated from his wife and son. But Greenberg is too self-obsessed to notice or care about other people's problems. The exception is his former girlfriend Beth (Jason Leigh), a divorced mother of two who sets him straight as he awkwardly attempts to rekindle their extinct 15-year-old relationship. Greenberg soon realises that old friends aren't necessarily still best friends and finds that his vulnerability immediately endears him to his brother s sweet young assistant, Florence (Gerwig), who helps him navigate Los Angeles and take care of Mahler. What begins as a courtesy to her employer develops into a charmingly eccentric and unexpectedly significant connection. As Greenberg discovers there is only so much nothing you can do, the awkward beauty he builds with Florence starts to look more and more like a reason to be happy. Special Features: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Greenberg: Ben Stiller and the cast talk about the character Roger Greenberg and how they brought this humorous story to life. Greenberg Loves Los Angeles: Writer/Director Noah Baumbach shares his aspirations for making the film. Noah Baumbach Takes a Novel Approach: Noah Baumbach discusses how essential writing is to filmmaking and how he personally turned to great American novelists for inspiration.
