When a potential range war heats up between cattlemen and farmers in the Outlet U.S. Marshal Jim Crown rides to Cimarron Territory to quell the dispute. Assigned to Cimarron City Crown finds a lawless town where even the army won't or can't keep control. When the Outlet is deemed to be free range tempers flare between the cowboys who owned the land and the farmers looking for a new settlement. To add to Crown's problems the ringleader of the cowboys is an old friend who's intent on causing trouble.
A rabble-rousing cowpoke by the name of Mobeetie celebrates finding a new job by getting drunk shooting up the town and riding his horse through the window of the Wayfarer's Inn. After being detained and jailed by Marshal Crown he loses his new appointment and swears to get even with the marshal. More trouble arrives via the Cimarron railway line when a freight car packed with dynamite is left unclaimed on the edge of town. With a band of outlaws in town a train carriage full of explosives and Mobeetie on the loose Marshal Crown needs to work fast before Cimarron is blown off the map once and for all.
Nine men who came too late and stayed too long! The year is 1913 just one year short of World War 1. Disguised as U.S. soldiers a gang rides into a Texas border town. Silently they enter and rob the railroad company but an ambush lies in wait. When the gang emerges the company's hired gunmen open fire. Men women and children are caught in the crossfire. The gang escape to their hideout in the desert where they find that the loot for which they fought so hard is worthless. With the railroad company hard on their heels the gang lead by Pike head for the apparent safety of the Mexican revolutionaries and representatives of the ruling Government. As a result of these separate meetings Pike and his gang are forced to re-examine the principles that had until then ruled their lives.
After a shoot-out kills five FBI agents in Kansas City the Bureau target John Dillinger as one of the men to hunt down. Waiting for him to break Federal law they sort out several other mobsters while Dillinger's bank robbing exploits make him something of a folk hero. Escaping from jail he finds Pretty Boy Floyd and Baby Face Nelson have joined the gang and pretty soon he is Public Enemy Number One. Now the G-men really are after him.
