Yet is he telling the police the whole truth?

  For almost 20 years Audrey Hepburn's pixie-like features lit up Hollywood's silver screens with hit after hit and she became not only a screen icon, but also a style icon (with a little help from Givenchy), and still features high in polls of the world's most beautiful women. It's perhaps no surprise, then, that Paramount have chosen to honour her with a box set of some of her best-known films. However, this is only "some of", with the absence of her dazzling performances in Roman Holiday and My Fair Lady, leaving three out of the four films included here lacking in comparison. Breakfast at Tiffany's is the strongest and certainly the best-loved Hepburn film in this collection, offering beautifully comic performances by both Hepburn and her leading man, George Peppard. Funny Face also makes a welcome entry, if only for the wonderful performance by Fred Astaire; Hepburn, though, was not a strong enough dancer to hold her own against Astaire's brilliance. Sabrina holds its own as the Cinderella story of a chauffeur's daughter who turns into a beautiful society girl, but it was clearly a quick and easy vehicle for Paramount to produce in the wake of Hepburn's success in Roman Holiday. The mysterious entry of the collection is Paris When It Sizzles, probably one of Hepburn's least-known and most quirky films, with two parallel love stories played out on the screen. Although not an obvious hit and hard work in places it offers an interesting screwball performance by Hepburn, even if the sparks did not fly with her screen partner William Holden. On the DVD: The Audrey Hepburn Collection offers a nice clean widescreen transfer for three of its movies, but Sabrina is a full-frame transfer that lacks something in comparison. All but Breakfast at Tiffany's (which has a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack) are mono sound transfers, which is only a real disappointment in Funny Face because of George and Ira Gershwin's score. The special features are also lacking, with only a trailer offered on two of the films and a mildly interesting documentary on Sabrina. The best is the featurette on Funny Face, which charts the success of Paramount in the 1950s, but offers nothing a film fan would not have known already. All in all this is an attractive box set, but perhaps one for the die-hard Hepburn fan only. --Nikki Disney

  Shades of Rollerball! Director Ernest Dickerson and executive producer Wesley Snipes ponder the sport of the future and come up with... "Futuresport", a combination of handball, ice hockey, and skateboard hot-dogging begun as an inner-city alternative to gang warfare and transformed into a glitzy media sensation. Dean Cain stars as the reigning Futuresport hero, a cocky glory hound who counts his cash and "popularity index" ratings with a smug grin until his narcissism costs him the championship game. As a ruthless terrorist group pushes the world to the brink of war, the suddenly altruistic Cain hatches a plan to bring Futuresport back to its roots. With the help of reporter (and former flame) Vanessa Williams and the game's creator (a rastah-inflected Snipes, who gives himself the film's best role), Cain proposes a winner-take-all game to settle the territorial dispute. Beefy former TV "Superman" Cain makes a better reformed hero than a snotty superstar and looks great in the game scenes, but Snipes steals the film with his funky turn as the inner-city guru with more on his mind than the game. Dickerson gives this TV film a handsome look and even injects a little grit into the otherwise bland screenplay, but apart from the zippy game scenes (which Dickerson films with an electrified energy), it's a familiar and rather flat bit of science fiction hokum. --Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com

  After 40-odd years Vinnie (Peter Falk) has a decent life. He and his wife Ellen (Tyne Daly) finally have some time together and his bar in South Boston is a second home for the neighborhood men. The guys drink up front and place bets in the back room. And when somebody local is down on their luck Vinnie can be counted on to strike a fair deal. Vinnie knows that Frankie (Timothy Hutton) is blowing paychecks on the numbers and driving away his wife (Lauren Holly) but Vinnie is a reasonable man. He respects the business associates who keep interests in his backroom operation and they in turn don't pressure him. That is until Pete from the Italian partnership sends over his itchy arogant nephew Tony (Freddie Prinze Jr.). Vinnie thinks that he has endured worse. All it takes is one small choice - an uncle looking for a member of his family or a bookie looking the other way - for an entire world to change...

But all that media attention has the likes of mobsters showing up at his doorstep charging that Tom is someone else they've been looking for. Is it a case of mistaken identity or does Tom have a history of violence that no one knows about? American History X (Dir. Tony Kaye) (1998): Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton) the charismatic leader of a group of young white supremacists lands in prison for a brutal hate-driven murder. Upon his release ashamed of his past and pledging to reform Derek realises he must save his younger brother Danny (Edward Furlong) from a similar fate. Running Scared (Dir. Wayne Kramer) (2006): Joey Gazelle (Paul Walker) is a low-level mafia thug who finds himself in the middle of a drug-deal gone wrong in which a hail of gunfire and some dead undercover cops are the net results. Fleeing from the scene Joey is charged with dispensing one of the steel revolvers used to kill the cops. Instead he stashes the gun in his own basement just in case he ever needs insurance against his own gang. Unfortunately Joey's 10-year old son Nicky (Alex Neuberger) and his best friend Oleg (Cameron Bright) see where the weapon is hidden. Oleg whose Russian mob-connected step-father is physically abusive towards him and his mother steals the gun to exact revenge. This forces Joey to embark on a nightmarish 18 hour journey to locate Oleg and the gun before his own gang the Russian mafia or bad cop Detective Rydell (Chazz Palminteri) finds them or the true link between the gun and the crimes....
