To call this cut of Blade Runner ‘long awaited’ would be a heavy, heavy understatement. It’s taken 25 years since the first release of one of the science-fiction genre’s flagship films to get this far, and understandably, Blade Runner: The Final Cut has proved to be one of the most eagerly awaited DVD releases of all time. And it’s been well worth the wait. Director Ridley Scott’s decision to head back to the edit suite and cut together one last version of his flat-out classic film has been heavily rewarded, with a genuinely definitive version of an iconic, visually stunning and downright intelligent piece of cinema. Make no mistake: this is by distance the best version of Blade Runner. And it’s never looked better, either. The core of Blade Runner, of course, remains the same, with Harrison Ford’s Deckard (the Blade Runner of the title) on the trail of four ‘replicants’, cloned humans that are now illegal. And he does so across an amazing cityscape that’s proven to be well ahead of its time, with astounding visuals that defied the supposed limits of special effects back in 1982. Backed up with a staggering extra features package that varies depending on which version of this Blade Runner release you opt for (two-, four- and five-disc versions are available), the highlight nonetheless remains the stunning film itself. Remastered and restored, it remains a testament to a number of creative people whose thinking was simply a country mile in advance of that of their contemporaries. An unmissable purchase. --Jon Foster

Their crime: wanting to be human. The story of Blade Runner is familiar to countless fans. But few have seen it like this. Because this Director Ridley Scott's own vision of his sci-fi classic. This new version omits Deckard's voiceover narration develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and removes the uplifting finale. The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may be a replicant. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Is Deckard a replicant? As with all things in the future you must discover the answer to find yourself.

  • Will Young - LiveWill Young - Live | DVD | (07/04/2003) from £4.46   |  Saving you £10.53 (236.10%)   |  RRP £14.99

The victorious winner of TV's Pop Idol, Will Young has already carved out a considerable run of success in the fickle world of pop. In Will Young, Live he abandons the cheesy boy-band ballads in favour of a more soulful approach that is perfectly suited to his "housewives favourite" status. His first live DVD is a rather laidback, sedate affair, lacking the fancy pyrotechnics and glittery costumes changes that gave fellow Pop Idol Gareth Gates' show a bit more razzle. Young breezes his way through a host of fan favourites including his first single "Evergreen", his take on The Doors classic "Light My Fire" and the Children in Need single "You and I". Not unsurprisingly, he wheels on Gareth for the finale to perform their duet "The Long and Winding Road". Young is a competent and confident performer and has a great live singing voice, backed by a great band and vocalists. He has shown great guts by not heading down the manufactured pop route, and his wide-ranging audience will enjoy reliving this concert for years to come. On the DVD: Will Young takes a similar approach to Gareth's live DVD, there are nicely designed, simple menus leading to the usual "photo gallery" and scene selection, but not much to get excited about. The picture and sound quality is quite excellent, with Young's stirring vocals always clear and crisp above the howling of 10,000 screaming fans. --Jon Weir
