A collection of vignettes, loosely based on the book by Dr. David Rueben, written and directed by Woody Allen, Everything contains some very funny moments. It's easy to forget that the cerebral Allen excelled at the type of broad, Catskill, dirty jokes and visual gags that run amok here. It's also remarkable how dirty this 1972 movie really was--bestiality, exposure, perversion and S&M get their moments to shine. The Woody Allen here, who appears in many of the sketches, is a portent of the seedy old Allen of Deconstructing Harry. Although the final bit, which takes... place inside a man's body during a very hot date, is hilarious, most of Everything feels like the screen adaptation of a 70's bathroom joke book. Still, a must for Allen fans. --Keith Simanton [show more]

Of his adaptation of the best-selling sex manual by Dr David Reuben, Woody Allen said he included in this film every funny idea I've ever had about sex, including several that led to my own divorce ! Allen s third feature consists of seven short stories illustrating the answers to such crucial questions as Do aphrodisiacs work? , What are sex perverts? and What happens during ejaculation? via a wide range of settings including medieval Britain, present-day Manhattan, an Italy straight out of an Antonioni film and a mad scientist s underground laboratory, before Allen anticipates Pixar s Inside Out by over four decades as he explores the inside of a man s brain (and other areas) at a crucial moment of passion. With a cast including Allen himself (in multiple roles), John Carradine, Lynn Redgrave, Burt Reynolds, Gene Wilder and a sheep named Daisy, plus a cheerfully anything-goes approach to both sex and comedy, it s crammed with some of Allen s most memorably surreal ideas: where else are you going to see a giant mutant breast go on the rampage or a TV gameshow called What s My Perversion?
Woody Allen writes and directs seven sketches prompted by questions from Dr David Reuben's best-selling book. Highlights include a sketch about a doctor (Gene Wilder) who falls in love with a sheep and one entitled 'What Happens During Ejaculation?', in which Allen plays an anxious sperm awaiting his big moment.
