Films That Define A Decade: '00s Blu Ray

| Blu Ray

The ˜noughties' was a turbulent decade, with things seemingly changing faster than we could keep up with! Addictive social media platforms saturated our daily lives, and the innovation of technology made films more popular and accessible than ever before. We bring together four iconic films that celebrate this decade: Eminem starred in the American hip-hop biopic 8 Mile; Matt Damon played a spy on the run in The Bourne Identity; Mamma Mia! was a musical sensation with an all-star cast; and there was British zombie madness with Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead.

Collection of four acclaimed films from the 2000s. In '8 Mile' (2002), Jimmy Smith (Eminem) has grown up on the wrong side of 8 Mile Road in the industrial city of Detroit. After being dumped by his girlfriend, he moves back in with his mother Stephanie (Kim Basinger) and her new boyfriend but gets on with neither of them. His only solace is rapping with the group of DJs and MCs who go under the name of Three One Third. Convinced that this is his only hope of getting out of the dead-end life he could end up living, Jimmy perseveres with rapping and is backed up by new girlfriend Alex (Brittany Murphy) and his friends. In 'The Bourne Identity' (2002), badly wounded Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is pulled out of the Mediterranean by fishermen and is able to recall neither who he is nor what happened to him. After following his only clue to a bank in Zurich, he discovers money, passports and a gun waiting for him. With security agencies seemingly tracking his every move, Bourne travels to Paris where he hopes to find out his true identity and discover the real reason why the CIA are taking such an interest in him. In 'Mamma Mia!' (2008), soon-to-be-wed Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) invites three of her mother's old flames; Bill (Stellan Skarsgård), Sam (Pierce Brosnan), and Harry (Colin Firth) to Kalokairi for the wedding, in the hope of finding out who her real father is. Arriving on the sun-drenched Mediterranean island for the first time in 20 years, the now middle-aged men soon rekindle long dormant emotions, causing Donna (Meryl Streep) to revisit her past glories. Finally, 'Shaun of the Dead' (2004) follows Shaun (Simon Pegg), a useless but likeable thirty-something who works in an electronics shop in Crouch End. With his life seemingly going nowhere and his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) threatening to leave him, Shaun is suddenly thrust into action when a wave of undead zombies sweep across the nation.
