Feature length version of the anime TV series that mixes history and science fiction. Set two years after the final episode of the TV series, Edward Elric is living in the post WW1 Munich of 1923. Transported from his own world of Amestris to Earth, and with his alchemical powers gone, Edward has lost no time in researching the technology of the day, namely rocketry, in an attempt to return to his own time. He's helped in this research by a young German scientist, Alfons Heiderich, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Edward's own brother. Ever-present in the background to the story is the rise to power of the Nazi party, who, upon discovering the existence of Edward's parallel dimension, which they name Shambala, endeavour to bring Alchemy back to Earth to increase their power. Edward, the key to crossing the dimensions, has to choose between helping the Nazis fulfil their evil plan, thereby returning to his home, and consigning the Earth to a lifetime of tyranny.
