Double bill of thrillers by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, made in the style of the B-movie exploitation films revered by both directors. The films are shown together as a single full-length feature (complete with faux trailers) to replicate and pay homage to the experience of the downtown 'grindhouse' movie theatres of the 1970s, so called for their non-stop 'grinding out' of double bill programmes. 'Planet Terror' (2007) is Rodriguez's take on the zombie infestation genre. Government scientists at a remote Texan facility have inadvertently unleashed a deadly virus that turns normal people into raving, murdering mutants. With the hordes of crazed psychotics multiplying at an unstoppable rate, it's a spatterfest all the way as go-go-dancer Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan), mysterious drifter El Wray (Freddy Rodriguez) and professional smuggler Abby (Naveen Andrews) have to force an escape route to the helicopter that is their only chance of escape. 'Death Proof' (2007) is Tarantino's adrenaline-fuelled tale of a psychotic stuntman's serial attempts to stalk hot babes in his supercharged, 'death proof' Chevy. Having already dealt with one set of women in Texas, Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) moves on to Tennessee, where he targets another posse of head-turning women. But this time Mike finds that he's bitten off more than he can chew, as the three girls (Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms and Zoe Bell) give as good as they get.
