Originally conceived in the mid-sixties, Images concerns a pregnant children's author (Susannah York, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival) whose husband (Rene Auberjonois) may or may not be having an affair. While holidaying in Ireland, her mental state becomes increasingly unstable... resulting in paranoia, hallucinations and visions of a doppelgänger. Psychological horror written and directed by Robert Altman. After receiving a phone call from a mystery woman explaining her husband Hugh (Rene Auberjonois) is having an affair, children's author Cathryn (Susannah York) is left devastated and confronts him on his return from work. Deciding a break will do them some good, Hugh arranges for the pair to go on a short holiday to the Irish countryside so Cathryn can escape the stresses of the city and work on her latest novel. However, not long after they arrive in Ireland, Cathryn begins to hear voices and see strange apparitions as her mental state continues to deteriorate further.
