When the paths of two strangers cross at an airport, they get talking and discover that they both need urgent flights that aren't available. They decide to charter a private plane and pilot (Beau Bridges) to take them to their destinations - surgeon Ben Bass (Elba) is performing an operation on a patient in Baltimore and journalist Alex Martin (Winslet) is getting married. While flying over a snowy mountain range, the plane crashes leaving Alex badly injured and the two completely stranded with no way of getting help. When they realise that the pilot didn't file a flight plan, they come to terms with the fact that nobody knows where they are.
