When Haruka asks his classmate Akiho to go out with him, he's hoping that she'll say yes'. What he isn't expecting is for her to agree, then approach their relationship with an emotionally detached attitude as if she was writing a research paper with sex as the topic! It's all about maximizing compatibility, Akiho says, but when preparation for a first date requires Haruka to divulge a comprehensive list of his sexual fetishes in advance for planning purposes, perhaps there's something to be said for getting to know each other the old-fashioned way! And if Akiho's clinical approach isn't awkward enough, things get really weird when it's time to meet the parents and Haruka learns where Akiho's odd demeanour comes from! It's the romantic comedy where T.M.I. and A-Type personalities collide.
Joan Micklin Silver's wonderfully affectionate spin on the romantic comedy infuses the genre with a fresh, personal perspective, following an unmarried Jewish woman's search for fulfillment in New York City.

One of the most revered film noir hits of the 1940s, This Gun for Hire was also the debut teaming of Veronica Lake, in one of her sultriest and most iconic roles, and Alan Ladd. Following the success of the film, the duo would go on to team up in several more features, although This Gun for Hire remains their most fondly remembered pairing. Ladd as a frightening yet oddly sympathetic hit man was only fourth-billed in this defining early noir, yet it became the breakout role that turned him into a star. As The New York Times said of Ladd upon the film's 1942 release, He is really an actor to watch. After this stinging performance, he has something to live up to or live down. Lake is nightclub chanteuse Ellen, and her police detective boyfriend Michael (Robert Preston) is on the hunt for assassin-for-hire Philip Raven (Ladd), after Raven performed a hit on a chemist with a secret formula and a taste for blackmail. When Raven's employer Gates (Laird Cregar) double crosses him after the job is done, Raven seeks revenge, and his path crosses with Ellen after she is hired to perform at Gates' club. Raven learns that the stolen formula is for a poison gas that is to be sold to the Japanese, and his pangs of conscience and revelations of his tortured past turn Ellen's fear into compassion, just as dangerous forces close in on Raven. But Ellen is still unsure if Raven can be trusted... Adapted from Graham Greene's novel, This Gun for Hire is a stylish wartime espionage noir that was actually in the middle of shooting when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the U.S. entered the war. Lake and Ladd were such a dynamic pairing that Paramount already teamed them again for the same year's adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's The Glass Key before this was even released. In a touch of cinematic irony, The Glass Key had previously been filmed in 1935...by This Gun for Hire director Frank Tuttle (who did not return for the '42 version). One of Studio Ghibli's most obscure and sought after titles OCEAN WAVES (also known as Umi Ga Kikoeru and I Can Hear The Sea) is newly restored and available for the very first time in stunning high-definition. Directed by Tomomi Mochizuki (Princess Nine) and based upon author, essayist and playwright Saeko Himuro's most popular, best-selling novel, OCEAN WAVES is one of the most poignant and unsung masterpieces within Studio Ghibli's legendary creative output. Wonderfully detailed and incredibly subtle, there are very few films in the history of animation that have managed to capture so well the joys and drama of adolescence and teenage alienation. KÅchi is your average coastal town on the sleepy, idyllic island of Shikoku and young Taku is definitely your average high school student. But soon his quiet life will be turned upside down with the arrival of Rikako: a beautiful, female student recently transferred from Tokyo. By the end of term Taku will have learnt a valuable lesson in love and friendship.
Directed by David Fairhead Armstrong is the definitive life story of Neil Armstrong: from his childhood in rural Ohio, through his near death experiences in aerial combat in the Korean War, pushing the limits as an experimental test pilot through to those historic first steps on the Moon and the unwanted celebrity status that ensued. In his own words David said Telling this story is a documentary filmmaker's dream. When Neil made his small step onto the lunar surface, it marked his transformation from mere man to global celebrity something he spent the rest of his life trying to avoid. Through the testimony of colleagues, friends and family we outline his achievements and tell the seemingly familiar, yet little known tale of the First Man on the Moon. Made with the full support of his family, this dramatic, moving and insightful film includes previously unseen homemovie footage shot by Armstrong himself. Neil's own words provide the narration based on his rare interviews, writings and speeches, which are delivered by renowned actor and aviation enthusiast Harrison Ford. Featuring exclusive interviews with his family, fellow astronauts and aviators and those who knew him in his youth and later life, ARMSTRONG is the extraordinary and unique story of a quiet, determined man who became an aviator, astronaut, husband, father and reluctant hero.
For over half a century, the brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani have been making some of the most beautiful and timeless films in all Italian cinema, and this collection showcases some of their greatest achievements. Padre Padrone catapulted them to international fame when it won both the Palme d'Or and the International Critics' Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Set in rural Sardinia, it tells the true story of Gavino Ledda, who rose from shepherd boy to distinguished academic against all possible odds, especially those posed by his terrifyingly traditionalist father. With The Night of the Shooting Stars, the Tavianis dramatised the events of summer 1944 (when Germans and Americans used their native Tuscany as a battleground) through the eyes of an imaginative and mischievous six-year-old girl. And in Kaos, they adapted several Pirandello short stories into a magnificent three-hour panorama of nineteenth-century Sicilian life in all its comedy, tragedy, horror and unforgettable visual splendour. Arrow Academy is proud to present these three masterpieces in brand new director-approved 2K restorations. As befits the BBC's reputation for producing some of the world's best nature documentaries, Planet Earth is an epic travelogue, focussing on different ecologies and the unique animals that inhabit them. Once again, Sir David Attenborough provides the narration, as the cameras fly across the surface of the earth, zooming in to give us a bug's eye view one minute, zooming out to give us an eagle's perspective the next. The BBC's cameramen filmed more than 200 locations, resulting in some truly spectacular footage, much of which has never before been seen--such as the rare sight of an endangered snow leopard hunting in the Himalayas, or great white sharks leaping from the water as they hunt. The creators of Planet Earth endured some of the world's most hostile environments, from the deepest ocean depths to an Antarctic blizzard to a fetid, cockroach- and bat-infested cave, just to grab a few moments of film; it's worth watching the "Making of" shorts that accompany each episode, in order to see just what lengths they had to go to. The three extra episodes here--Planet Earth: The Future--provide a sobering finale, as Sir David practically pleads with viewers to cherish the animals that we share this planet with, before it's too late. --Ted Kord
