Director of The Spider's Stratagem, The Conformist, and Last Tango in Paris, Bernardo Bertolucci was one of the greats of Italian cinema. In 1987 his acclaimed epic The Last Emperor made with British producer Jeremy Thomas (Naked Lunch, Crash) swept the 60th Academy Awards winning nine Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. Following the life of Pu Yi, the last of the Emperors of China, from his birth in 1908 through his childhood in the fortress-like Forbidden City and his later misguided collaboration with the Japanese in World War II, The Last Emperor tells the history of China through the eyes of the man brought up to believe he was the country's divine ruler. Filmed on location in China, Bertolucci and Thomas were the first western filmmakers to be allowed access to previously forbidden locations. Together with a cast including John Lone, Joan Chen and Peter O'Toole, and director of photography Vittorio Storaro's lushly evocative cinematography, they created a classic film of sweeping scope and delicate intimacy that stunned critics and audiences alike. In a world where journalism is under attack, Marie Colvin (Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike) is one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time. Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontlines of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless, while constantly testing the limits between bravery and bravado. After being hit by a grenade in Sri Lanka, she wears a distinctive eye patch and is still as comfortable sipping martinis with London's elite as she is confronting dictators. Colvin sacrifices loving relationships, and over time, her personal life starts to unravel as the trauma she's witnessed takes its toll. Yet, her mission to show the true cost of war leads her along with renowned war photographer Paul Conroy (Jamie Dornan) to embark on the most dangerous assignment of their lives in the besieged Syrian city of Homs. Based on the extraordinary life of Marie Colvin, A PRIVATE WAR is brought to the screen by Academy Award nominee and critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker Matthew Heineman in his pulse-pounding narrative feature debut.

The great improvisational comedy team of Mike Nichols and Elaine May reunited to (respectively) direct and write this update of the French comedy La Cage Aux Folles. Robin Williams stars as a gay Miami nightclub owner who is forced to play it straight and ask his drag-queen partner (Nathan Lane) to hide out when Williams's son invites his prospective--and highly conservative--in-laws and fiancée to a meet-and-greet dinner party. Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest play the straight-laced senator and his wife, and Calista Flockhart (from television's Ally McBeal) plays their daughter in a culture-clash with outrageous consequences. May's witty screenplay incorporates some pointed observations about the political landscape of the 1990s and takes a sensitive approach to the comedy's underlying drama. Topping off the action is Hank Azaria in a scene-stealing role as Williams's and Lane's flamboyant housekeeper, "Agador Spartacus." --Jeff Shannon

Death Is Just The Beginning. Nekromantik is the one-of-a-kind shock classic from cult director Jörg Buttgereit. Never before released on home video in the UK (until now no distributor even dared submit it for classification) Nekromantik plunges the viewer into an unremittingly bleak world of depravity and necrophilia - weaving the tale of Rob Schmadtke (Daktari Lorenz) a young man who finds himself competing for the affections of his girlfriend with a putrefying cadaver. Rob is employed by Joe's Streetcleaning Agency a company which handles the unenviable task of cleaning up grisly accidents and crime scenes. But Rob has a particular reason for liking his chosen profession allowing him as it does to indulge in his hobby of choice - collecting body parts which he keeps preserved in jars around his flat. Tasked with transporting the body of a young man from a murder scene Rob seizes the opportunity to abscond with the corpse - bringing it home much to the delight of his equally unhinged girlfriend Betty. A twisted love triangle ensues resulting in some of the most shocking scenes ever committed to celluloid. Nearly 30 years after its original release Nekromantik with its grotesque imagery and shocking subject matter still retains the power to offend - a point borne out by the fact that it remains banned in a number of countries. But Buttgereit's film is much more than a shock piece; Nekromantik shares as much in common with the movies of the preceding New German Cinema movement as it does with splatter films of its era. Arriving on Blu-ray in a brand-new Director-approved transfer Arrow Video is proud to present this underground classic - finally classified for UK release in its fully unexpurgated form. Carlos Saura's (Carmen, Blood Wedding) touching and thoughtprovoking 1976 work remains one of the most important films in Spanish cinema. Released when Spain was just coming out of 40 years of Fascist rule it was nominated for a Golden Globe, and won the Grand Prize at Cannes in 1977. Cria Cuervos (aka Raise Ravens) centres on an amazing performance by the young actress Ana Torrent (Spirit Of The Beehive, The Haunting) as the disturbed eightyearold girl living in Madrid with her two sisters and mourning the death of her mother, played by an ethereal Geraldine Chaplin, whom she conjures as a ghost.
A group of seven mages gets chosen to become masters of seven classes of heroic spirits, in order to fight and win the Holy Grail.
Federico Fellini's epic 1980 fantasia introduced the start of the Maestro's delirious late period. A surrealist tour-de-force filmed on soundstages and locations alike, and overflowing with the same sensory (and sensual) invention heretofore found only in the classic movie-musicals (and Fellini's own oeuvre), La citta delle donne [City of Women] taps into the era's restless youth-culture, coalescing into nothing less than Fellini's post-punk opus. Marcello Mastroianni appears as Fellini's alter ego in a semi-reprise of his character from 8-1/2, Snaporaz. As though passing into a dream, the charismatic avatar finds himself initiated into a phantasmagoric world where women - or an idea of women - have taken power, and which is structured like an array of psychosexual set-pieces - culminating in a bravura hot-air balloon that decisively sticks the anti up into climax. A great adventure through the looking-glass, as it were, of Fellini's own phallic lens and life-long libidinal ruminations, La citta delle donne sharply divided critics at the 1980 Festival de Cannes, some of whom had merely anticipated a nostalgic retread of the earlier Mastroianni works. What they were greeted with, and what remains today, is, in the words of Serge Daney, a victory of cinema. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present La citta delle donne on Blu-ray and DVD in Gaumont's glorious new HD restoration. Special Features: HD Restoration of the Film, presented in 1080p on the Blu-ray Newly Translated Optional Subtitles Substantial Booklet Containing Writing on the Film, Vintage Exerpts and Rare Archival Imagery
