Big, fat, important... and seriously offensive. We mean, Of-fens-ive. With strong (we mean really strong) republican views, comes "Big Fat Important Movie" from Anchor Bay, storming your limey sensibilities on DVD and Blu-Ray from October 5 2009.
Henry Selicks Monkeybone is another of the directors brave experiments in combining various forms of animation following his successes with The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Two-dimensional, stop-motion, CGI and muppetry effects whizz by with casual dazzle, but sometimes a collection of great ideas isnt just enough for moviegoers, and audiences summarily dismissed Monkeybone at the cinema. Shame really, because the eye-popping design deserves as big a screen as possible to drink it all in. Adapted from a graphic novel the story concerns cartoonist Stu Miley (a suitably schizophrenic Brendan Fraser) who finds himself in a hellish purgatory called Downtown after a freak car accident puts him in a coma. Once there, he must find a way to cheat Death in the person of Whoopi Goldberg. There are complications, however. In the real world his girlfriend (Bridget Fonda) is battling to prevent his family pulling the plug, and his comic character alter ego Monkeybone has come to life as a randy stop-motion whirligig of bad taste and ideas. Although visually the film is a feast of inventive ideas--the amazing look of the Pyjama Party and the Land of Death are truly impressive--ultimately Monkeybone stands or falls by its sense of humour. But then its all a matter of taste. If the sight of a possessed organ donor jumping off the operating table and running around with a broken neck isnt for you, avoid. If seeing Fraser ham it up as hes enjoyed doing before in the likes of George of the Jungle, then enjoy!--Paul Tonks
Feature-length spin-off of the Danish comedy series. Casper however is more concerned about meeting women and having a good time and the three of them end up getting involved in a series of misadventures.
For nearly four decades Benny Hill reigned supreme as the king of bawdy humour on British television. Of his body of work it is the shows that he did for Thames television in the 1970's for which he is best remembered with their combination of farce risque jokes and beautiful ladies. It is these shows that made him a global superstar - topping the ratings in the US also. With his 'three stooges': Henry McGee Bob Todd and Jack Wright Benny Hill produced a handful of 'specials' every year - all of which were critically acclaimed ratings toppers. This fantastic compendium brings together each of the annuals through out the '70's and is a must for any hardened fan of the great man.
Thumb Wars is a parody of Star Wars in which all the characters are played by real human thumbs with equally real human eyes and mouths grafted onto them through the wonders of computerised image tweakery. Obvious, really. If you're a fan of the toy and puppets dramas on The Adam and Joe Show or, frankly, even if you're not, you'll love this. Quite apart from the inherent wonderful silliness of mastermind Steve Oedekerk's creations, the mickey-taking is of a high order as Loke Groundrunner, Hand Duet and Princess Bunhead, aided by Oobedoob Benubi, battle the forces of the evil Thumbpire (the stormtroopers wear thimbles) in order to destroy the "big dangerous weapon thing that can blow stuff up". Along the way, Luke and Oobedoop replay Bunhead's holographic message while lying on the floor so they can look up her dress, the two robots have sex and Hand Duet insists on being paid in girly giggles. The eventual destruction of the "big dangerous weapon thing" will have you in stitches, with Groundrunner attempting to use "the power of the Thumb" while the spirit of Oobedoob urges him to "use the instrument panel, Luke--that's what it's there for". --Roger Thomas
An inevitable idea: a working man (Michael Keaton) who can't meet all his professional and family responsibilities has himself cloned. It works so well having one copy of himself to take charge of matters at the office that he makes another copy who takes care of the home front. Pretty soon, different aspects of Keaton's personality are emphasised in the different clones: the labourer becomes a macho creep and the domestic god becomes rather feminine. A third clone, struck from the duplicates instead of the original, becomes like a photocopy of a photocopy: inferior. Multiplicity is a timely comedy should be better than it is, but special-effects requirements are so labour-intensive that most scenes feel stiff and leaden. Keaton is good in all four parts, and in certain gee-whiz effects scenes, where he even high-fives himself, he pulls off a minor miracle or two. (Of course, a kid did the same thing in Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.) --Tom Keogh

What Happens in Vegas Two strangers unwittingly end up as bride and groom in this comedy. When one of them strikes it rich after playing the other person's coin, the stakes are suddenly much higher. But all's fair in love and war--and Las Vegas--as each of them tries to get the money. In Her Shoes In this screen adaptation of Jennifer Weiner's bestselling novel, Toni Collette (MURIEL'S WEDDING) is Rose Feller, an overweight, overworked, and painfully undersexed lawyer who fills an emotional void with pints of Haagen-Dazs and a closetful of expensive shoes that she never wears. Little sis Maggie (an always radiant Cameron Diaz), who is prone to public drunkenness, one night stands, and wearing lingerie as outerwear, is as lacking in career prospects as her sister is in romantic ones. When her irresponsible behaviour gets her kicked out of her father's house by her spiteful stepmother, Maggie has nowhere to crash but her elder sister's couch. But, after she ignites a series of disasters ranging from the minor to the catastrophic, Maggie is cast out by her angry older sibling, with no job, no money, and no one to take her in. Only when their love-hate relationship veers towards the hate end of the spectrum do they accidentally discover they also share a long-lost grandmother (MacLaine) who enriches their lives and helps them make peace with each other - and themselves!
Leslie Nielsen tones down the bumbling for Santa Who? but wearing a belly like a bowl full of jelly does little to diminish his trademark dimwittedness, which is what gets the bells ringing on this St. Nick flick. Peter Albright, self-involved TV reporter, can't believe his luck when Santa, presumably the for-hire variety, sails into his windshield and gets amnesia--what a story! When his search for Santa's family stops short at the North Pole, his humbug infestation subsides, setting him free to make merry. Predictability aside, Santa Who? drags a sleigh-full of better than average shenanigans into living rooms, making this a winter-evening warmer for the whole family. --Tammy La Gorce, Amazon.com
