Crackerjack was a much loved British children's comedy variety show which aired on the BBC from 1955 through to 1984. A highlight of these shows were the silent comedy style sections starring Don Maclean and comedy genius Peter Glaze. Written and directed by Alan JW Bell (who is also known for directing the successful TV series Last of the Summer Wine) each week the lead actors played different parts for example: fisherman road sweepers barbers builders farmers window cleaners bellboys removals etc each scenario and situation ending up in hapless slapstick hilarity. Crackerjack may also have been the originator of the popular English phrase Don't get your knickers in a twist. In the Don and Pete sketches Peter Glaze who usually played a pompous or upper-class character would always get exasperated with his comedy partner Don Maclean's wisecracks or apparent stupidity. Maclean would then give an alliterative reply such as Don't get your knickers in a knot or Don't get your tights in a twist the combination of which has passed into popular culture. Peter Glaze often uttered Doh! to Don's wisecracks. Those Crackerjack Silents - Don and Pete' brings 12 of these classic silent short films to DVD for the very first time. Special Features: Bonus Extras include an interview with Don Maclean entitled Don Maclean Remembers

Her condition becomes more extreme as she suffers a series of strokes robbing her of the ability to put words to things... Thora Hird gives one of her best ever performances as the scared old lady with a twinkle in her eye and Pete Postlewaite is typically brilliant in his understated portrayal of Deric.
