George Kitchener Bulman, late of Strangers and television s scruffiest, quirkiest detective, has retired from police work. Old habits die hard, however, and the plan to spend his days quietly mending clocks in his South London antiques-cum-junk shop goes out the window when he meets Lucy McGinty, a university drop-out with a passion for criminology who manages to coax old GBH out of retirement and into partnership in a new private detective agency. So out come the nasal inhaler, tatty string gloves and plastic carrier-bag briefcase and Bulman somewhat reluctantly returns to a world of organised crime, terrorism and international espionage. And this time, he's free of the police code... This set presents both series, starring Don Henderson as the classics-quoting detective and acclaimed actor Siobhan Redmond in her first drama-series role. With the majority of episodes scripted by Strangers stalwart Murray Smith, this cult series guest stars Alun Armstrong, Ingrid Pitt, George Sewell, Sheila Hancock, Jack Shepherd, Peter Wyngarde, Iain Cuthbertson and Robert Hardy among many others.
Granada's landmark anthropological series broadcast over three decades remains an extraordinary triumph of cutting-edge documentary making. A series of internationally acclaimed award-winning films offer intimate portraits of remote communities such as the Cuiva Embera and Panare Indians of Colombia the nomadic Tuareg of the Sahara the Kurdish Dervishes and the Meo of China while highlighting the fragility of these ancient cultures - many of which had been squeezed to the point of extinction at the time of filming. Developed from an idea by former World In Action producer Brian Moser who had witnessed at first hand the relentless and rapid destruction of native Indian tribes in Latin America Disappearing World displayed an unprecedented foregrounding of its subjects who spoke freely about their lives and values in their own languages and were filmed engaged in daily activities. A generous budget and much freedom was granted to the production and research team and the series' constantly evolving presentation format also acknowledged current concerns and debates within the field about the portrayal of 'primitive' societies. The films were made easily accessible to schools and universities and remain a valuable educational resource. Disappearing World was groundbreaking television whose aim extended far beyond the remit of 'serious' or 'educational' programming required by the broadcasting strictures of the day setting the standard for future investigative programming. This first volume collects 15 documentaries initially broadcast between 1970 and 1975.

World in Action was, undoubtedly, ITV's flagship current affairs show. Over four decades (from the '60s to the '90s) this multiple BAFTA winner was fearless, hard-hitting and trailblazing, choosing subjects that other programmes would not dare touch, getting into trouble with ITV regulators and - at times - the Government. A cornerstone of the British viewing schedule, the WIA team investigated stories at no small personal risk to themselves and often courted controversy whilst reporting on organisations such as the National Front. This report is included here, along with editions that cover everything from euthanasia to Scientology, from the Miners' Strike to extended coverage of the underhanded practices of the CIA in the 1970s.
